Sakambari Festival Begins at Indrakeeladri Temple, Vijayawada

The Sakambari Festival commenced on July 7, 2025, at the Kanaka Durga Temple on Indrakeeladri hill, Vijayawada.

The deity was decorated as Sakambari Devi using vegetables, fruits, and flowers, with nearly 10 tonnes of fresh produce offered by devotees.

The celebration honors nature and fertility, seeking abundant rainfall and good harvests.

UN Adopts Resolution Urging Taliban to Uphold Women’s Rights

The UN General Assembly passed a resolution with 116 votes urging Afghanistan’s Taliban to:

  • Stop oppressing women and girls
  • Remove terrorist groups from the country

The resolution, spearheaded by Germany, saw opposition from the United States and Israel, while 12 countries, including India, China, and Iran, abstained.

It also recommended increased economic aid to Afghanistan and proposed appointing a UN coordinator for global actions.

Colombia and Uzbekistan Join the New Development Bank

Colombia and Uzbekistan have officially joined the New Development Bank (NDB), increasing its membership to 11 countries.

Trinidad & Tobago Integrates UPI for Indian Tourists – First in Caribbean

On July 7, 2025, Trinidad and Tobago became the first Caribbean nation and the eighth globally to enable UPI (Unified Payments Interface) for Indian travelers.

The announcement was made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

Indians can now pay in rupees via UPI-enabled apps by scanning QR codes in partner outlets.

Other UPI-enabled countries: UAE, Singapore, France, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius.
