International News
India and EAEU Ink Terms of Reference for Free Trade Agreement Talks
- India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) — which includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russia — signed the Terms of Reference (ToR) in Moscow to initiate negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
- The ToR was signed by representatives from both parties with the aim of:
- Enhancing export opportunities
- Supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
- Broadening India’s market access
- In 2024, India-EAEU trade touched $69 billion, recording a 7% rise over 2023.
- The proposed FTA is expected to:
- Tap into unexplored trade potential
- Encourage investment inflows
- Lay the foundation for a durable trade partnership.
Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s Visit to India
- Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be on an official visit to India from August 24–26, 2025.
- He will be accompanied by his wife and senior officials, including Fiji’s Health Minister Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu.
- During his visit:
- He will hold bilateral discussions with PM Narendra Modi, who will also host a formal lunch.
- He will meet President Droupadi Murmu.
- He is scheduled to deliver a lecture, “Ocean of Peace”, at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
- The visit’s main goal is to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance cultural and people-to-people engagement between India and Fiji.
Iran’s “Sustainable Power 1404” Missile Drills
- Iran launched a two-day missile exercise, named “Sustainable Power 1404”, in the Gulf of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean.
- This marks Iran’s first major military drill since the 12-day war in June.
- The exercise featured:
- Advanced cruise missiles such as Nasir and Qadir
- Operations by naval warships (surface and submarine units)
- Participation of air squadrons and electronic warfare brigades
- The Iranian warships IRIS Sabalan and IRIS Ganaveh successfully destroyed sea targets during the drills.

India Becomes the World’s Third-Largest Solar Power Producer
- As per the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), India generated 1,08,494 GWh of solar energy in 2025, surpassing Japan’s 96,459 GWh output.
- By July 2025, India’s solar capacity reached 119.02 GW, consisting of:
- 90.99 GW from ground-mounted projects
- 19.88 GW from rooftop solar systems
- 3.06 GW from hybrid plants
- 5.09 GW from off-grid installations
- India’s total renewable energy capacity now stands at 227 GW, reflecting a 4,000% growth in solar capacity over the past decade.
- The country’s solar potential is projected at 748 GW, with major production hubs in Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.
Government Raises ₹1.42 Lakh Crore Through Asset Monetisation (Till FY25)
- The Government of India has raised ₹1.42 lakh crore through asset monetisation up to FY25.
- Key monetisation models used include:
- Toll-Operate-Transfer (ToT)
- Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvIT)
- Securitisation
- This approach:
- Provides long-term private investment in public assets
- Reduces pressure of public debt
- Facilitates expansion of highways and infrastructure.
- The target for FY25 is ₹30,000 crore, aligned with the broader goal of efficient capital recycling.
CCPA Imposes ₹10 Lakh Fine on Rapido
- The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) fined Rapido, operated by Roppen Transportation Services Pvt. Ltd., ₹10 lakh for misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices.
- The violation was linked to the “AUTO IN 5 MIN OR GET ₹50” promotional offer.
- Findings:
- The compensation offered was Rapido coins instead of cash.
- The claim was not guaranteed, making it false and deceptive.
- Actions taken:
- The misleading advertisements have been banned.
- Rapido must reimburse all affected consumers.

Yamuna Water Pipeline Project: Haryana & Rajasthan MoU
- Haryana and Rajasthan have signed an MoU to jointly prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Yamuna Water Pipeline Project.
- Project aim: Transfer 577 MCM of water from Hathnikund to Rajasthan districts (Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and others) via underground pipelines.
- Timeline: Transfer to take place July to October, once Haryana has utilized the Western Yamuna Canal’s full capacity of 24,000 cusecs.
- A Joint Task Force has been formed, while Rajasthan has also engaged a consultant for preparing the DPR.
