PM Unveils India’s First Global Aircraft Engine MRO Centre in Hyderabad

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) centre in Hyderabad, boosting India’s aspiration to emerge as a global MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) hub.
  • Developed over a 45,000 sq m area with an investment of ₹1,300 crore, the facility will maintain LEAP aircraft engines, generate more than 1,000 specialised jobs, and support the vision of aviation self-reliance.
  • The PM emphasised India’s rapidly expanding aviation network, liberal investment reforms, and its rising status as a dependable global hub for manufacturing and investment.
  • He reiterated the nation’s mission with the message: “We are dreaming big, doing bigger and delivering best.”

Cabinet Clears ₹7,280 Crore Scheme to Boost Rare Earth Magnet Production

  • The Union Cabinet sanctioned a ₹7,280 crore initiative aimed at promoting indigenous production of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (REPMs).
  • The initiative seeks to reduce heavy reliance on imports and strengthen key sectors such as electric vehicles, defence, aerospace, renewable energy, and India’s Net Zero 2070 commitments.
  • The scheme targets establishing 6,000 MTPA manufacturing capacity across five selected beneficiaries.
  • It offers ₹6,450 crore in sales-linked incentives and ₹750 crore as capital support over a 7-year period (2 years for setup and 5 years of incentives).
  • This will help build India’s first fully integrated REPM manufacturing ecosystem, aiding long-term technological self-reliance.

2025 Antarctic Ozone Hole Shrinks—Fifth Smallest Since 1992

  • As per a joint NASA and NOAA assessment (24 Nov 2025), the 2025 Antarctic ozone hole averaged 7.23 million sq miles, peaking at 8.83 million sq miles on 9 September.
  • This makes it the fifth smallest ozone hole since 1992, indicating steady atmospheric recovery.
  • Scientists credit this improvement to the Montreal Protocol (1987), which successfully phased out ozone-depleting chemicals like CFCs.
  • Antarctic stratospheric chlorine levels have dropped by nearly 33% since 2000.
  • The ozone hole is now forming later in the year and closing earlier, with complete recovery expected by the late 2060s.
