Karnataka’s Akka Pade Scheme
Karnataka Cabinet approved statewide rollout of ‘Akka Pade’ scheme across all 31 districts and 5 police commissionerates. It is a women- and community-oriented safety programme aimed at preventing violence, harassment, exploitation, and child marriage. Law Minister HK Patil announced the expansion.

World’s Largest Green Ammonia Project
Andhra Pradesh to host the world’s largest green ammonia project at Kakinada. AM Green investing $10 billion. Target: 1.5 MTPA capacity by 2030 using large-scale renewable energy. India’s first green ammonia exports planned from this facility, supporting National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Justice Revati Mohite Dere sworn in as the first woman Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. Oath administered by Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar at Durbar Hall, Lok Bhavan, Shillong. She succeeds Justice Soumen Sen. Landmark moment for the matrilineal northeastern state.

Google’s Project Suncatcher
Google Research unveiled Project Suncatcher: AI datacentres in low-Earth orbit (LEO) powered entirely by solar energy. Aims to cut AI’s energy footprint using uninterrupted solar power. Uses sun-synchronous orbits for constant sunlight, radiation-tolerant TPUs, and petabit-scale inter-satellite networking.

Major Swathi Shantha Kumar (Indian Army) won UN Secretary-General’s Award 2025 for initiative “Equal Partners, Lasting Peace”. Serving with UNMISS (UN Mission in South Sudan). Nalini Joshi – NSW Scientist of the Year
Indian-origin Nalini Joshi became the first mathematician to receive New South Wales’ highest science honour. Professor and Chair of Applied Mathematics at University of Sydney. Also the institution’s first woman Professor of Mathematics. Recognised for pioneering contributions to applied mathematics.

Pune Grand Tour 2026
MS Dhoni named Goodwill Ambassador for Pune Grand Tour 2026 – India’s first UCI 2.2 cycling event. Race dates: 19-23 January, spanning 437 kilometres. Teams from 35 countries participating. Promotes cycling, tourism, and India’s presence in international sports.
