WAVES 2025 was held at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai (May 1β4), organised by the Ministry of I&B. PM Modi coined ‘Orange Economy’ (Content, Creativity, Culture) β India targets a USD 50 billion creative economy by 2029 and will establish the IICT.

Caste Enumeration in Census
The CCPA (chaired by PM Modi) approved caste enumeration in the national census on 30 April 2025, reversing India’s 2021 stance. It is authorised under Article 246 (Union List, Entry 69). This replaces ad hoc caste surveys with structured constitutional data collection.

Sugarcane FRP 2025β26
CCEA fixed the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane at βΉ355/quintal for the 2025β26 season β a βΉ15 hike. This is ~105.2% return over the βΉ173/quintal production cost, as recommended by CACP (Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices).
National Security
NSAB Reconstitution 2025
Former R&AW Chief Alok Joshi was appointed Chairman of the reconstituted National Security Advisory Board (NSAB). The seven-member board includes members from the Army, Navy, Air Force, IPS, and Foreign Service. It was reconstituted following the Pahalgam terror attack.

IAF: 49th Vice Chief of Air Staff
Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari became the 49th VCAS of the IAF on 1 May 2025. He previously commanded South Western Air Command (SWAC) at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, and received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal β the highest peacetime military decoration.

The CCEA approved NH-06 spanning 166.80 km (144.80 km in Meghalaya + 22 km in Assam), connecting Mawlyngkhung to Panchgram. The βΉ22,864 crore project is built under the Hybrid Annuity Model to boost Northeast connectivity.

Both states were carved from Bombay State on 1 May 1960 under the States Reorganisation Act. The bifurcation followed the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. Maharashtra’s capital is Mumbai; Gujarat’s is Gandhinagar.

Northern Command: New GOC-in-C
Lt. General Pratik Sharma was appointed GOC-in-C of the Northern Command (HQ: Udhampur, J&K) effective 1 May 2025. He succeeded Lt. Gen. M.V. Suchendra Kumar and previously served as DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) at Army HQ.
