The Union Cabinet extended Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) till 2028 with a revised total outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore and central assistance of Rs 3.59 lakh crore. JJM 2.0 pivots from infrastructure creation to sustainable service delivery. Originally launched in August 2019 under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

FDI Rules Amended for Land Border Countries
Cabinet amended Press Note 3 (2020) to introduce a 60-day decision timeline for LBC investment proposals. LBCs include China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan. LBC beneficial owners with a non-controlling stake of up to 10% may now invest via the automatic route subject to sectoral caps.

Madurai Airport Declared International
The Union Cabinet declared Madurai Airport in Tamil Nadu as an International Airport to boost tourism, trade, and employment in southern Tamil Nadu. The Cabinet also cleared railway multitracking in West Bengal and Jharkhand (Rs 4,474 crore) and a road project for Noida International Airport connectivity (Rs 3,631 crore).

The document outlines transformation into a multi-domain military by India’s centenary of independence, covering Jointness, AI, cyber defence, and Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.

India’s Textile Waste: 70.73 Lakh Tonnes Annually
India generates 70.73 lakh tonnes of textile waste annually β 42% pre-consumer and 58% post-consumer waste. Panipat, Haryana is a major hub for mechanical textile recycling. India’s textile recycling market is projected to reach USD 3.5 billion by 2030, with potential to generate ~1 lakh green jobs.

Passive Euthanasia Allowed in Harish Rana Case
A bench of Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K.V. Viswanathan permitted passive euthanasia for Harish Rana (32), in a permanent vegetative state since 2013. This is the first practical application under the 2023 revised passive euthanasia guidelines, building on the 2018 ‘Common Cause v. Union of India’ ruling (Right to Die with Dignity under Article 21).

RBI Revises Bank Dividend Framework
RBI’s revised dividend norms (effective FY 2026β27) cap maximum payout at 75% of Profit After Tax (PAT). Eligibility is now linked to the Common Equity Tier 1 (CET-1) ratio β banks with CET-1 β€ 8% cannot declare any dividend. This replaces the earlier CRAR and net NPA-based eligibility framework.
