A new plant species Osbeckia zubeengargiana (family Melastomataceae) was discovered in Manas National Park, Assam by Gauhati University botanists. The single-stage suborbital rocket reached ~3 km altitude with a carbon fibre composite airframe (Make in India). Approved by AAI, DGCA, Indian Coast Guard, and IN-SPACe, aligned with Gujarat Spacetech Policy 2025–2030.

Formula 1 β€” Chinese Grand Prix 2026
Kimi Antonelli (19, Mercedes-AMG Petronas) won the Chinese Grand Prix 2026 at Shanghai, also becoming the youngest polesitter in F1 history. Mercedes achieved a 1-2 finish (Antonelli + George Russell). Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) secured P3 β€” his first podium with Ferrari. The 2026 F1 regulations introduce a 50-50 ICE-electric power split.

Supreme Court on DGP Appointments β€” Prakash Singh Case
The Supreme Court (Prakash Singh v. Union of India) clarified there is no legal concept of ‘acting DGP’. This ensures transparency and insulation from political interference in police leadership.

Ramesses II Statue β€” El Ashmunein Discovery
A 3.8-metre fragment of a Ramesses II statue was found at El Ashmunein (ancient Hermopolis Magna), Egypt by a joint team from Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities and University of Colorado Boulder. Culture & Heritage
St. Patrick’s Day β€” 17 March
St. Patrick’s Day commemorates Saint Patrick (c. 385–461 CE), the patron saint of Ireland, credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. His famous symbol is the shamrock (three-leaved plant), used to explain the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). The day is a public holiday in Ireland and Northern Ireland; the colour green is strongly associated with the celebration.

Democratising Education or Widening the Digital Divide? The Promise and Limits of EdTech for Competitive Exam Preparation
Context from today’s quiz: The SATHEE App, developed by IIT Kanpur with government backing, aims to give free, AI-powered exam preparation to students from economically weaker sections who cannot afford private coaching. While the initiative signals a major push toward democratised education, India’s coaching industry remains a multi-billion rupee ecosystem β€” and unequal access to devices, connectivity, and digital literacy still shapes who benefits from EdTech platforms.
πŸ€” Your Perspective Matters
Government-backed free platforms like SATHEE promise to level the playing field for aspirants from rural and low-income backgrounds. But can a digital app β€” however well-designed β€” truly substitute for the structured mentorship, peer competition, and offline infrastructure of established coaching centres?

Is India’s EdTech push a genuine equaliser, or does it risk shifting the burden of access failure from institutions to individuals who “didn’t use the free tools”?
  • Should government investment in free EdTech platforms like SATHEE be counted as a substitute for, or a supplement to, school-level teaching quality reforms?
  • Given that connectivity and device ownership remain unequal across India, does a digital-first strategy risk creating a new tier of excluded aspirants?
  • How should success of a platform like SATHEE be measured β€” by the number of registered users, or by actual improvements in exam outcomes for economically weaker students?
