SATHEE App β Free Digital Learning Platform
SATHEE (Self Assessment Test and Help for Entrance Exams) was developed by the Ministry of Education with IIT Kanpur. It covers JEE, NEET, CUET, CLAT, SSC, RRB, IBPS, and ICAR with video lectures, mock tests, multilingual support, and an AI-enabled module. Specially designed for students from economically weaker sections unable to afford coaching.

FASTag Annual Pass β Revised Fee Structure
NHAI revised the FASTag Annual Pass fee to Rs 3,075 (from Rs 3,000) for private non-commercial vehicles, effective 1 April 2026. The scheme was launched on 15 August 2025 (Independence Day), allows 200 toll crossings or 1 year (whichever comes first). Over 11.86 crore FASTag tags have been issued; ~50 lakh users use the Annual Pass. NHAI functions under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Osbeckia zubeengargiana β New Species Discovery
A new plant species Osbeckia zubeengargiana (family Melastomataceae) was discovered in Manas National Park, Assam by Gauhati University botanists. Named after singer Zubeen Garg, it is a 2.5β3.5 m tall perennial shrub with bright pink flowers, classified as ‘Data Deficient’ on the IUCN Red List. Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Gujarat’s First Sounding Rocket β Omspace
Gujarat launched its first sounding rocket on 15 March 2026 near Dholera (Bavliyari village), developed by Ahmedabad startup Omspace Rocket and Exploration. The single-stage suborbital rocket reached ~3 km altitude with a carbon fibre composite airframe (Make in India). Approved by AAI, DGCA, Indian Coast Guard, and IN-SPACe, aligned with Gujarat Spacetech Policy 2025β2030.

World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 β India’s Medal Haul
India won 5 medals at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand (8β15 March). Chandrika Pujari clinched gold in Women’s 51kg by unanimous decision over Mardonova Nazokat (Uzbekistan). Silver medals went to Gunjan (48kg), Joyshree Devi (54kg), and Ambekar Meetei (50kg men). Bronze to Radhamani Longjam (57kg).

Kimi Antonelli (19, Mercedes-AMG Petronas) won the Chinese Grand Prix 2026 at Shanghai, also becoming the youngest polesitter in F1 history. Mercedes achieved a 1-2 finish (Antonelli + George Russell). Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) secured P3 β his first podium with Ferrari. The 2026 F1 regulations introduce a 50-50 ICE-electric power split.

India dominated the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 (11β13 March, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi) with 208 medals: 75 gold, 69 silver, 64 bronze. 257 athletes from 8 nations participated; India fielded 219 para-athletes. Supreme Court on DGP Appointments β Prakash Singh Case
The Supreme Court (Prakash Singh v. Union of India) clarified there is no legal concept of ‘acting DGP’. States must submit proposals of eligible officers to the UPSC at least 3 months before the incumbent DGP’s retirement. The UPSC prepares a panel of three officers; the state selects one. This ensures transparency and insulation from political interference in police leadership.

Ramesses II Statue β El Ashmunein Discovery
A 3.8-metre fragment of a Ramesses II statue was found at El Ashmunein (ancient Hermopolis Magna), Egypt by a joint team from Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities and University of Colorado Boulder. The fragment joins a lower half found in 1930, making a ~7-metre statue. Hermopolis Magna was dedicated to Thoth, ibis-headed god of wisdom. Ramesses II ruled 1279β1213 BCE.

St. Patrick’s Day β 17 March
St. Patrick’s Day commemorates Saint Patrick (c. 385β461 CE), the patron saint of Ireland, credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. His famous symbol is the shamrock (three-leaved plant), used to explain the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). The day is a public holiday in Ireland and Northern Ireland; the colour green is strongly associated with the celebration.
