Rafale-M Deal (April 28, 2025)
India signed a Rs 64,000 crore (~USD 7.4 billion) G2G deal with France for 26 Rafale-Marine jets (22 single-seat + 4 trainers). They will operate primarily from INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. Deliveries begin by end of 2029, to be completed by 2031.

ECMS β Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme
India’s first dedicated PLI scheme for electronic components, with an outlay of Rs 22,919 crore for 6 years (FY26βFY32). Launched by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (MeitY). Aims to connect Indian firms with Global Value Chains (GVC). Bengaluru-based Sarvam was also selected to build India’s first indigenous AI LLM.

Global military spending reached USD 2,718 billion in 2024 β a 9.4% real-term increase. Top 5: USA (USD 997 bn), China (USD 314 bn), Russia (USD 149 bn), Germany (4th), India (USD 86.1 bn, 5th). Over 100 countries raised spending; global GDP share: 2.5%.

Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul (Thailand) elected BWF President for 2025β2029 at the 86th BWF AGM in Xiamen, China. She is the 2nd woman to lead BWF, after China’s Lu Shengrong (1993β2001). BWF HQ: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Founded: 1934.

Bihar’s Guinness World Records
Bihar set two GWRs: (1) World’s Largest Madhubani Painting on Canvas β 18.69 sq. m by 50 women under Padma Shri Bauaa Devi; (2) Largest Singing Bowl Ensemble β 375 Buddhist monks in Bodh Gaya. Certificates presented to CM Nitish Kumar. Madhubani painting uses natural colours (turmeric, beetroot, carbon).

I4C Under PMLA
I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre), established in 2018 under MHA, was authorised under Section 66 of PMLA 2002 to share information with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Helps identify masterminds of transnational cyber frauds. Public helpline: 1930; portal: cybercrime.gov.in.

China’s Tianlian-2 (05) Satellite
Launched April 27, 2025, aboard Long March-3B from Xichang β the 572nd Long March flight. A second-generation GEO data relay satellite using the DFH-4 platform with an operational lifespan of up to 15 years. Provides TT&C for manned spacecraft and LEO satellites.

Uganda: Ebola Sudan Virus Outbreak Ends
Uganda declared the end of its Ebola Sudan Virus Disease (SVD) outbreak in April 2025, following the 42-day WHO countdown post last patient discharge (March 14, 2025). The Sudan Virus (SUDV) was first identified in southern Sudan in June 1976 and kills approximately 4 in 10 infected.
