Slavery Remembrance Day — 25 March
Observed on 25 March every year, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade was established by UNGA Resolution A/RES/62/122 (December 2007) and first observed in 2008. The 2026 theme is ‘Justice in Action’. The permanent memorial ‘Ark of Return’ at UN HQ was unveiled on 25 March 2015.
History
Slave Trade Act, 1807
The date 25 March references the British Parliament’s Slave Trade Act passed on 25 March 1807, which abolished the British transatlantic slave trade. Over 15 million Africans were trafficked over 400 years. The 2008 inaugural theme was ‘Breaking the Silence, Lest We Forget’.

Khelo India Tribal Games 2026
Held in Chhattisgarh (25 March – 3 April 2026) across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja, with over 2,300 athletes. Disciplines include Archery, Athletics, Football, Hockey, Weightlifting, Wrestling, plus Mallakhamb and Kabaddi as demonstrative events. The Khelo India programme is under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS).

Delhi Budget 2026-27 Highlights
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta presented a budget of Rs 1,03,700 crore on 24 March 2026. Described as a ‘green budget’ under the vision ‘Viksit Delhi, Harit Delhi’, it allocates 21% to environmental initiatives. Delhi’s per capita income is third-highest in India at Rs 5,31,610 (7.92% growth). Tax revenue estimated at Rs 74,000 crore.

Goldman Sachs India GDP Forecast Revision
Goldman Sachs cut India’s 2026 GDP growth forecast to 5.9% (from a pre-conflict high of 7.0%), marking the second downgrade in a month. Triggers: Strait of Hormuz closure (20% of global oil), Brent crude at $105–$115/barrel, Rupee depreciation of 4%, and a widening Current Account Deficit projected at 2% of GDP.

Goldman Sachs India CPI & Repo Rate Forecast
Goldman Sachs revised India’s 2026 headline CPI inflation forecast to 4.6% (from 3.9%), still within RBI’s target band of 2–6%. The bank simultaneously forecasted a 50 basis point repo rate hike from the current 5.25% to combat inflation and prevent capital flight due to crude-driven price pressures.

Anahat Singh — JSW Indian Open 2026
Anahat Singh (World No. 20, aged 18) defended her JSW Indian Open title at CCI, Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, defeating Hana Moataz (Egypt) 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6). Her 16th PSA title overall — she became the youngest Asian to enter the PSA world top 20, surpassing Malaysia’s Nicol David. In the all-Indian men’s final, Abhay Singh beat Veer Chotrani 3-0.

India’s Coal Production Milestone
India crossed 1 billion tonne (BT) coal production on 20 March 2026 for the second consecutive year. India is the world’s 2nd largest producer and consumer of coal, with 74% of its electricity generated from coal-based thermal plants. Coal reserves rank 5th globally (after USA, Russia, Australia, China), sufficient for 60–70 years. Coal India Limited (CIL), HQ Kolkata, is the primary PSU.

Squash at LA 2028 — Historic Olympic Debut
Squash will make its first-ever Olympic appearance at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, ending decades of exclusion despite global popularity. India has 4 men in the PSA world top 50. The JSW Indian Open 2026 was hosted at Cricket Club of India (CCI), Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Abhay Singh cited LA 2028 as his primary individual sporting goal.

Delhi Jal Board (DJB) — Key Facts
The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was established under the Delhi Jal Board Act, 1998 and is responsible for water supply and sewage treatment in the national capital. Delhi Budget 2026-27 allocated Rs 9,000 crore to DJB, including Rs 475 crore for the Chandrawal water treatment plant and Rs 454 crore for the Najafgarh drain.
