Mine Awareness Day — 4 April
Established by UNGA Resolution A/RES/60/97 (8 Dec 2005); first observed 4 April 2006. Led by UNMAS. 2026 marks the 21st observance. India is a non-party to the Mine Ban Treaty but contributed USD 1.2 million to international mine action in 2024.

NCERT — Deemed University Status
MoE granted NCERT ‘Deemed to be University’ status under Section 3, UGC Act 1956 on 30 March 2026. Covers NCERT + 6 constituent institutions (RIEs at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru, Shillong + PSSCIVE Bhopal). NCERT can now offer programmes from Diploma to Post-Doctoral level.
International Relations
India–South Korea Shipbuilding MoU
KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency, est. 1991, HQ Seongnam) signed a Plan of Implementation with India’s MoPSW on 2 April 2026, aligned with Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047. KRIVET will lead sectoral research; bilateral workshops planned in both countries.
Monetary Policy
RBI State Borrowing Plan — Q1 FY27
Total plan: Rs 2,54,509 crore. Nine states in pilot Benchmark Issuance Strategy (BIS): AP, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, MP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, UP. BIS states borrow Rs 1,53,900 crore; remaining states/UTs raise Rs 1,00,609 crore via traditional market borrowing.

INS Aridhaman — India’s Third SSBN
Commissioned 3 April 2026; designation S4; 8 vertical launch tubes (double INS Arihant’s 4). Can carry 8 K-4 SLBMs (3,500 km) OR 24 K-15 Sagarika SLBMs (750 km). Powered by 83 MW CLWR (BARC); ~7,000 tonnes. India’s SSBNs: Arihant (2016), Arighaat (Aug 2024), Aridhaman (Apr 2026).

PTC Saharanpur — Platinum Jubilee
Postal Training Centre Saharanpur (UP) established 2 April 1951. 75th (Platinum) Jubilee marked with a Rs 5 commemorative stamp released by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. India Post operates 1.5+ lakh post offices — the world’s largest postal network.

BIRAC-BioNEST at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru
BIRAC = Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (under DBT, MoS&T, HQ New Delhi). CSIR-CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute) is in Mysuru, Karnataka (est. 1950). BioNEST centre supports early-stage biotech startups in food bioprocessing with infrastructure, mentorship, and funding.

Khelo India Tribal Games 2026
Inaugural KITG 2026 held in Chhattisgarh (Raipur, Jagdalpur, Surguja); 25 March – 3 April 2026. Karnataka topped the tally (23G, 8S, 7B = 38 medals). Mascot: ‘Morveer’. Seven medal sports: Archery, Athletics, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Weightlifting, Wrestling. Organised by MoYAS, SAI, NSFs, IOA.

CASA Ratio Decline — Dec 2025
CASA ratio = Current Account + Savings Account deposits ÷ total deposits. Fell to 37.9% (Dec 2025), a 2-year low, from 40.1% (Dec 2023). Savings accounts dropped 210 bps to 28.9%. Total bank deposits grew 10% YoY to Rs 69.4 lakh crore. CDs hit record Rs 15.5 lakh crore in FY26.

ISRO Mission MITRA — Gaganyaan Prep
MITRA = Mapping of Interoperable Traits & Reliability Assessment. Conducted at 3,500 m altitude in Leh, Ladakh (2–9 April 2026). Four Gaganyatris participate. Designed by ISRO’s HSFC + IAM (IAF). Gaganyaan target: 2027 — 3 astronauts to 400 km orbit for a 3-day mission.
