Organised by EARTHDAY.ORG (formerly Earth Day Network); mobilises 1 billion+ people in 193 countries. Paris Climate Agreement was signed on Earth Day, 22 April 2016. Dearness Allowance Hike — April 2026
Union Cabinet approved 2% DA hike on 18 April 2026. DA revised from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay/Pension, effective 1 January 2026. Covers both DA (Dearness Allowance — for employees) and DR (Dearness Relief — for pensioners). Basis: AICPI-IW; framework: 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC). DA is revised twice a year (January and July). Previous: 55% → 58% in July 2025.

John Ternus (SVP, Hardware Engineering) becomes Apple CEO effective 1 September 2026. Tim Cook (CEO since 2011, successor of Steve Jobs) transitions to Executive Chairman. Ternus joined Apple in 2001; led iPhone, Mac, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch hardware. Arthur Levinson becomes Lead Independent Director. Under Cook, Apple stock rose ~1,933%. Transition unanimously approved by Apple’s Board.

India–South Korea Special Strategic Partnership
President Lee Jae Myung (ROK) State Visit to India: 19–21 April 2026. Adopted ‘Joint Strategic Vision for India-ROK Special Strategic Partnership (2026–2030)’. Bilateral trade target: USD 50 billion by 2030 (current: ~USD 25–27 billion). Agreement to upgrade CEPA. Inaugurated 19 April 2026 in Bhubaneswar (Khordha), Odisha. Developer: 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS), USA via Indian subsidiary HIPSPL. Investment: Rs 1,943.53 crore under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Capacity: 70,000 glass panels, 50 million assembled units annually. Commercial production: August 2028. Applications: aerospace, defence, AI, 5G, data centres. Minister MeitY: Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Aronyak Ghosh (Kolkata, born 6 Dec 2003) became India’s 95th Chess Grandmaster at the 23rd Bangkok Chess Club Open 2026. Scored 7/9 (unbeaten); performance rating 2,584. Three GM norms: Sants Open Spain (2023), Annemasse Masters France (2024), Bangkok 2026. 4th Indian to earn GM title in 2026. Earlier achievements: bronze at Under-16 World Youth Chess Championship (2019); National Rapid Chess Championship winner (March 2026). Plays for RSPB.

India’s First Petroglyph Conservation Park — Leh, Ladakh
Foundation stone laid by LG Vinai Kumar Saxena in April 2026, coinciding with World Heritage Day (18 April 2026). Location: Sindhu Ghat, Leh, Ladakh (banks of Indus River). Aims to conserve ancient rock engravings (petroglyphs) threatened by unregulated tourism and infrastructure development. MoU between Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Petroglyphs = prehistoric carvings/engravings on rock surfaces.
