Observed annually on June 1. Established in 2001 by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) of the United Nations. First observed: June 1, 2001. 2026 Theme: ‘Celebrating Women Farmers.’ Highlights the dairy sector’s contribution to global nutrition, economic development, and sustainability. June 1 was chosen to align with many countries’ existing National Milk Day observances.

India–Oman CEPA — Key Trade Figures
India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) came into force on June 01, 2026. Covers 98.08% of India’s exports (99.38% of tariff lines). Earlier MFN regime covered only 15.33% duty-free. India liberalises 77.79% of its tariff lines, covering 94.81% of imports from Oman. Oman expands market access across 127 services. Announced in presence of Minister Piyush Goyal (MoCI).

Jointly launched by Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) and Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). Full name: Missions for Advancement in High-Impact Areas (MAHA) Water Mission. Outlay: Rs 200 crore over five years; up to Rs 20 crore per consortium. ANRF was established under the ANRF Act 2023 as India’s apex research funding body. Themes: Drinking Water, Water Quality, Water Use Efficiency, and Climate Resilience.

Marcia Lou Griffin (Marcia Lucas): Passed away at 80 in Rancho Mirage, California. Born: October 4, 1945, Modesto, California. Won Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope (1978). Collaborated with directors George Lucas and Martin Scorsese. Also nominated for American Graffiti (Oscar) and Taxi Driver (BAFTA). Pioneer of Hollywood’s New Hollywood era.

RBI Annual Report 2025-26 — Key Data Points
RBI Balance Sheet expanded 20.6% to Rs 91.97 lakh crore (from Rs 76.25 lakh Cr, as on March 31, 2026). Rs 1.09 lakh Cr transferred to Contingency Fund. Bank fraud amount rose 46% to Rs 48,021 Cr in FY26; however, number of fraud cases fell to 10,114 from 23,722. Asset growth: Domestic investments +44.9%, Gold +63.8%, Foreign investments +7.9%. Mesalina bishnoi — New Lizard Species, Rajasthan
Discovered by Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) near Gajner, Bikaner district, Rajasthan — first confirmed record of the genus Mesalina in India. Field surveys: August 2025; published after morphological & genetic validation. Belongs to arid-adapted lacertid lizards; confirmed via mitochondrial DNA analysis within the Mesalina watsonana species complex. Named after the Bishnoi community for its conservation ethos. Highlights hidden Thar Desert biodiversity.
