World Bicycle Day — 3 June 2026
Observed annually on 3 June. 2026 theme: ‘Cycling for a Greener Future’. First celebrated on 3 June 2018, following UNGA Resolution A/RES/72/272 (adopted 12 April 2018), sponsored by Turkmenistan. Initiated by Polish-American social scientist Leszek J. Sibilski. Supported by World Cycling Alliance (WCA) and European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF). Promotes cycling as affordable, healthy, and SDG-aligned transport.

India–France: 114 Rafale Jets LoR
India issued a Letter of Request (LoR) to France for 114 Rafale jets (IAF) in a G2G deal worth ~Rs 3.25 lakh crore. Around 94 aircraft to be manufactured in India by Dassault Aviation with an Indian partner. First Rafale-M jets expected in 2028. Context: IAF squadron strength at 29 vs sanctioned 42.5 squadrons. LoR is a formal document initiating international defence procurement.

SIDE = State of India’s Digital Economy. Released by ICRIER–IPCIDE (May 2026). India ranked 5th in 2026 (71 countries) vs 8th in 2025 (32 countries). Uses CHIPS framework (Connect, Harness, Innovate, Protect, Sustain). India ranked 4th globally on AI (CHIPS Index), behind USA, China, Singapore. India holds 19.9% of global AI users and 2nd largest AI talent pool in the world.

Bangladesh FM Elected UNGA President — 81st Session
Khalilur Rahman (FM, Bangladesh) elected President of the 81st UNGA session in June 2026. Defeated Andreas Kakouris (Cyprus). Succeeds Annalena Baerbock (Germany) whose term ends September 2026. Rahman has served as FM since February 2026 and previously as National Security Adviser and High Representative on the Rohingya Issue. Has 40+ years of diplomatic experience.

RudraM-II Air-to-Surface Missile — DRDO & IAF
Tested from airborne platform at ITR, Chandipur, Odisha. Range: 300 km; Speed: Mach 5.5 — doubles RudraM-I’s 150 km range. Role: SEAD/DEAD (Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defences). Warhead: 200 kg. Launched from Sukhoi Su-30MKI at 3–15 km altitude. Developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad. Replaces Russian-origin Kh-31 missiles.

22nd edition, held at Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground, Hong Kong (May 28–31, 2026). 45 events. India: 2nd place — 19 medals (10G, 5S, 4B). China: 1st (25 medals; 14G, 9S, 2B). Japan: 3rd (18 medals). India’s gold medalists: Nitin Gupta (5000m Race Walk), Amanat Kamboj (Discus Throw), Rahul Jakhar (Decathlon), Women’s 4x400m Relay Team. Organised by Asian Athletics Association (AAA).

APCNF (Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming) won the 2026 Food Planet Prize from Curt Bergfors Foundation (Båstad, Sweden). Prize: USD 1.5 million; finalists each received USD 150,000. Selected from 1,000+ nominations, shortlisted from 35 initiatives across 19 countries. Launched in 2016 by Rythu Sadhikara Samstha (RySS), AP Agriculture Department. Adopted in 20+ Indian states and internationally.

UPI in Cambodia — KHQR via ACLEDA Bank
NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) partnered with ACLEDA Bank Plc. to enable UPI via Cambodia’s KHQR (Khmer Quick Response) system under the Bakong digital payment system. Coverage: 4.5 million+ KHQR merchants in Cambodia. UPI now accepted in: Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, Qatar, Cambodia. Launch attended by the Governor, National Bank of Cambodia and senior RBI officials.

CBSE New Chairperson — Prashant Sitaram Lokhande
ACC (Appointments Committee of Cabinet, PM Modi) approved Prashant Sitaram Lokhande (Additional Secretary, MHA) as CBSE Chairperson. Succeeds Rahul Singh (transferred to DoAFW). Also appointed: Varun Bhardwaj (MoE) as CBSE Secretary, succeeding Himanshu Gupta. Context: controversy over CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) System for Class 12 exams 2026 and alleged irregularities in private contracts.
