International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression — 4 June
Observed annually on 4 June; first observed 4 June 1983. Established by UNGA Resolution A/RES/ES-7/8 (adopted 19 August 1982) at the 7th Emergency Special Session. Originally highlighted suffering of Lebanese and Palestinian children in the 1982 Lebanon War. Reaffirms the UN’s commitment to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Linked to SDG Target 16.2: end all violence, abuse, and exploitation of children.

Delhi-NCR Vehicle Replacement Scheme — Rs 9,585 Crore
Approved by Union Cabinet on 3 June 2026. Replaces 2.07 lakh BS-IV and older trucks and buses with BS-VI or EVs over two years. Funded through NCRPB (under MoHUA); implemented by MoRTH & MoPNG. Benefits: 5% interest subvention for 5 years + monthly fuel vouchers up to Rs 4,800/vehicle. Monitored by Empowered Committee chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. T. V. Somanathan.

UNSC Non-Permanent Members Elected — June 2026
Five new non-permanent members elected by UNGA: Austria, Kyrgyzstan (first-ever UNSC term since UN membership in 1992), Portugal, Trinidad & Tobago, and Zimbabwe. Term: 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028. Continuing non-permanent members (until Dec 2027): Colombia, Bahrain, DRC, Latvia, Liberia. P5 (permanent members): USA, UK, France, Russia, China. Total UNSC strength: 15 members.

D.K. Shivakumar — 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka
Doddalahalli Kempegowde Shivakumar (INC, Kanakapura constituency) sworn in as 25th CM of Karnataka after Siddaramaiah stepped down. Oath administered by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru under Article 164 of the Indian Constitution. First elected MLA in 1989 from Sathanur (age 27). Won from Kanakapura in 2008, 2013, 2018, 2023. Was previously Deputy CM under Siddaramaiah.

T-Hub ORBIT Cohort 3 — Space-Tech Acceleration
T-Hub launched ORBIT Cohort 3 in June 2026 with 13 startups; total ORBIT portfolio now 36 space-tech startups. Supported by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) as an Atal National Incubation Centre (ANIC). Focus areas: propulsion, orbital servicing, satellite intelligence, sovereign compute, satellite connectivity, geospatial tech. Previous cohorts raised ~Rs 30 crore and published 18 IPs. T-Hub’s wider spacetech initiatives have engaged 100+ startups.

Lionel Messi (Argentina; Inter Miami CF) won the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports 2026 — first individual footballer to receive the honour. Holds a record 8 Ballon d’Or awards. OECD Economic Outlook — India’s GDP Forecast Revised
OECD’s ‘Economic Outlook Under Pressure: June 2026‘ raised India’s FY27 GDP growth by 20 basis points to 6.3% (from 6.1% in March). FY26 GDP growth: 7.6%. FY28 projection: 6.4%. Inflation forecast: 4.8% in FY27 (revised down from 5.1%); driven by food/energy prices and currency weakness. Global growth projected to ease from 3.4% (CY25) to 2.8% (CY26), retained at 3.1% for CY27. Key driver of revision: post-conflict energy stabilisation.

ADB–Standard Chartered: Supply Chain Finance Pact
ADB and Standard Chartered Bank signed two agreements in Mumbai in June 2026: (1) Risk Participation Arrangement (RPA) through GIFT City, Gujarat for USD-denominated transactions; (2) Partial Guarantee Facility (PGF) for onshore INR transactions. Signatories: Bhargav Dasgupta (VP, ADB) and P.D. Singh (CEO, StanChart India & South Asia). Aim: address trade finance gaps, support domestic and cross-border trade. ATF Price Stabilisation Fund — Rs 10,000 Crore
Union Cabinet approved Rs 10,000 crore one-time budgetary support for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to stabilise Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices for Indian airlines. Valid for up to 36 months. Recovery mechanism: when global ATF prices fall, the differential is recovered from OMCs and returned to the Consolidated Fund of India. OMCs compensated when Import Parity Price (IPP) > GoI benchmark. Monitoring Committee: MoCA, MoPNG, DoE (MoF). Necessitated by West Asia conflict fuel price surge.

Telangana–Thuringia Cooperation Pact — TOMCOM & Skilling
Signed in June 2026 between Telangana and Germany’s Thuringia during delegation led by Mario Voigt (Minister-President, Thuringia) and A. Revanth Reddy (CM, Telangana). Covers: skill development, industrial growth, innovation, technology, startups, and life sciences. Key initiative: German Language Training Hub in Hyderabad integrated with TOMCOM (Telangana Overseas Manpower Company) for overseas employment in German-speaking markets. Also explores collaboration with YISU, ATCs, and polytechnic institutes.
