IUU Fishing Day — 5 June (FAO)
Observed annually on 5 June, led by FAO. Proclaimed by UNGA Resolution A/RES/72/72 (December 2017). Marks entry into force of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) in 2016 — first legally binding global treaty against IUU fishing. First observed: 5 June 2018. Note: World Environment Day (UNEP) also falls on 5 June — a different observance. 2022 was IYAFA (International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture).

CCEA NH Projects — Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM)
CCEA approved 4 NH projects worth Rs 24,249 crore spanning 700+ km across Odisha, Telangana, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. All under Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) — government pays 40% during construction, rest as annuity. Part of PM GatiShakti-National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP). CCEA is India’s highest executive body for economic decisions, chaired by PM Narendra Modi.

Neelkanth Mishra — World Bank Executive Director
ACC appointed Neelkanth Mishra (Chief Economist, Axis Bank; Head of Global Research, Axis Capital) as Executive Director, World Bank for a 3-year tenure. He succeeds Parameswaran Iyer (1981-batch IAS, UP cadre). Mishra spent nearly two decades at Credit Suisse as Co-Head of Asia Pacific Strategy. World Bank HQ: Washington D.C., USA.

PFRDA’s StAR NPS Platform & Regulatory Sandbox
PFRDA launched ‘StAR NPS’ — digital onboarding platform for the National Pension System — developed by BSE Technologies Private Limited (BTPL). Enables NPS onboarding via Points of Presence (PoPs) and pension agents. Regulatory Sandbox Framework effective 2 June 2026. Min. net worth for independent applicants: Rs 10 lakh. PFRDA established: 2003; NPS eligibility: residents aged 18–85 years.

Project Glasswing — India Joins Anthropic’s AI Cybersecurity Initiative
India joined Project Glasswing led by Anthropic PBC, gaining access to Claude Mythos AI. Focus: identifying software vulnerabilities, protecting critical digital infrastructure, generating remediation patches at scale. Participating entities include NATO, ENISA, SWIFT, Samsung, SK Hynix, Okta and 16+ countries. India joins Canada, UK, USA, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea among others.

India’s First Passenger FFV — Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (E20–E100)
Launched by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri (MoPNG). Vehicle: Maruti Suzuki Wagon R; supports E20 to E100 ethanol-petrol blends. Uses advanced ECU, modified fuel systems, and cold-start system. Classified as Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) by NITI Aayog (near-zero PM emissions). Also launched: Hero MotorCorp’s Splendor+ Flex Fuel and HF Deluxe Flex Fuel motorcycles by Minister Nitin Gadkari at the same event.

Kona Srikar Bharat retired from international cricket after 7 Tests (2023–2024). Unique record: first wicketkeeper-batter to score a triple century in Ranji Trophy — unbeaten 308 vs Goa (2015) for Andhra. International stats: 221 runs, 19 dismissals. Featured in 2023 ICC WTC Final. IPL title: KKR (IPL 2024). Retired to pursue overseas T20 opportunities per BCCI regulations.

SoftBank Vision Fund II divested 3.25% stake in Lenskart Solutions via NSE open market: 5.65 crore shares at avg price of Rs 508.55/share — total Rs 2,873.30 crore. Stake dropped from 13.13% to 9.88%. Key buyers: WhiteOak Capital MF, Mirae Asset MF, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity. SoftBank earned approximately 7x returns — one of its most successful India investments.

India–UK Critical Minerals GSCO — IIT ISM Dhanbad & Cambridge
Launched by G. Kishan Reddy (Ministry of Mines) and Yvette Cooper (UK FCDO Secretary of State). Led by TEXMIN + TTRP (at IIT ISM Dhanbad, Jharkhand) + University of Cambridge. Objective: strengthen India-UK critical mineral supply chain intelligence for clean energy, EV mobility, and advanced manufacturing. Supports building resilient, diversified mineral value chains.

Signed by CM C. Joseph Vijay and SN Subrahmanyan (CMD, L&T). Three projects: Data Centre (Rs 15,000 cr, Kancheepuram — 500 jobs); Electronics Manufacturing (Rs 2,500 cr, Coimbatore — ~2,000 jobs); Kattupalli Shipyard expansion (Rs 1,100 cr, Tiruvallur — ~5,700 jobs). First major investment pact of the new TN government. TN vision: USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
