Base value: 1,000; first value date: June 20, 2005; reconstituted every 6 months (June & December). Can be used for ETFs, Index Funds, and as a benchmark for PMS and Mutual Fund schemes.

IRDAI constituted a 7-member Working Group on AI (WG-AI) in June 2026 under Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, Director, IIIT Hyderabad. Member-convener: Deepak Gaikwad, GM & CISO, IRDAI. Mandate: assess AI adoption in insurance, review global AI regulatory practices, recommend an ethical AI governance framework. Report due within 3 months.

Federal Bank launched the FCNR Max Deposit Scheme (June 2026): 6.25% p.a. on USD deposits, tenures 3–5 years, available till September 30, 2026. Exclusively for NRIs; minimum deposit: USD 500. 1-year lock-in period; early closure after lock-in attracts 1% penalty. Follows RBI FCNR(B) swap facility and CRR/SLR exemptions.

Jainendra K. Jain — 2025 Wolf Prize in Physics (Indian Origin)
Awarded on 18 June 2026; first person of Indian origin to win the Wolf Prize in Physics (since 1978). Honoured for discovering Composite Fermions and revolutionising understanding of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect (FQHE). Shared with James P. Eisenstein and Mordehai Heiblum. Born in Rajasthan; Evan Pugh University Professor at Penn State, USA; Founding Director, Lodha Theoretical Physics Institute (LTPI), Mumbai.

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) upgraded from Miniratna Category-I to Navratna CPSE status by DPE, MoF (approved by FM Nirmala Sitharaman). FY26 turnover: Rs 59,400 crore. Became India’s 28th Navratna. Navratna benefit: can invest up to Rs 1,000 crore or 15% of net worth per project without prior government approval.

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage (Sri Lanka) won with 88.68 m. 2nd: Anderson Peters (Grenada) — 86.38 m; 3rd: Curtis Thompson (USA) — 85.99 m; 4th: Neeraj Chopra (India) — 85.69 m. This was the 7th of 14 qualifying meetings in the 2026 Diamond League season (Wanda Diamond League / World Athletics framework).

International Day for Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict — 19 June
Observed annually on 19 June. 2026 theme: ‘Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Against Children: Safeguarding Futures and Empowering Caregivers’. Established by UNGA Resolution A/RES/69/293 (19 June 2015); first observed 19 June 2016. UNSC Resolution 1820 (19 June 2008) recognised rape as a tactic of war. Also on June 19: World Sickle Cell Day 2026 theme — ‘Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease’.

Maharashtra–Google LoI — AI Training for 4 Lakh Teachers
Maharashtra School Education Department signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Google for Education to train more than 4 lakh teachers in AI and digital technology over 18 months. Signed at Mantralaya, Mumbai; witnessed by Dadaji Bhuse, School Education Minister. Aligned with NEP 2020; Google provides the programme free of cost. Training available in Marathi, Hindi, and English via the Google AI Educator Series.

National Reading Day — 19 June; P.N. Panicker’s Legacy
National Reading Day observed on 19 June to honour P.N. Panicker — the Father of Kerala’s Library and Literacy Movement. First ‘Vayanadinam’ observed in Kerala on 19 June 1996 (his first death anniversary). PM Modi declared it National Reading Day in 2017. Reading Week 2026: June 19–25; Reading Month 2026: June 19 – July 18. Nodal bodies: PN Panicker Foundation and PM Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra (NITI Aayog designated).
