Connects to 17 international destinations (Rome, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, etc.) via New Delhi hub. Launched under Air India’s ‘Easy Connect’ initiative for tier-2/tier-3 cities. Passengers clear immigration and baggage at origin airport — no re-booking at metro hubs.

Top 5: LineShine (China), El Capitan (USA), Frontier (USA), Aurora (USA), Jupiter (Germany). India’s Shakti Cloud: 32nd at 84.31 petaflops; LineShine is ~26x faster. India has 7 supercomputers on the list: PARAM Siddhi-AI, Pratyush, Mihir, Aditya, SahasraT, Arka, Param Bramha. USA leads with 161 systems. TOP500 released biannually: ISC (June) and SC (November).

Bangladesh Joins IBCA — Sundarbans Conservation
Bangladesh became the 27th member of India’s International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) in June 2026. Cabinet approval: 22 May 2026. Primary focus: transboundary conservation of Bengal tiger and leopard in the Sundarbans — world’s largest mangrove forest shared by India & Bangladesh. IBCA protects 7 big cat species: tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar, puma. Key officials: Pranay Verma (Indian High Commissioner), Abdul Awal Mintoo (Bangladesh Environment Minister).

C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics) — under DoT, Ministry of Communications — signed MoU with IIT Hyderabad (IITH) for its 4th CoE. New Snail Species in Meghalaya — ATREE Discovery
ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) scientists discovered 2 microscopic snail species in Meghalaya’s limestone caves. Georissa meghalayaensis: endemic, found near Krem Puri cave entrance; orangish-red shell with mesh-like ridges. Acmella bensoni: named after William H. Benson, found in Krem Puri and Arwah caves; translucent whitish shell. Published in European Journal of Taxonomy. Meghalaya: part of Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hotspot (~1,200 limestone caves). Threats: tourist footfall, artificial lighting, limestone mining.

Day of the Seafarer 2026 — 16th Edition
Observed annually on 25 June. 2026 theme: ‘Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks.’ Established via Resolution 2 at a diplomatic conference in Manila, Philippines (21–25 June 2010), which also adopted the Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention. Amendments entered into force: 1 January 2012 (tacit acceptance). First DotS observed: 25 June 2011. Side note: India observed Passport Seva Divas on 24 June 2026 (14th observance, marking Passports Act 1967 coming into force).
