Observed annually on 25 June; 2026 theme: ‘From Stigma to Strength’. Awareness colour: Purple. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder causing loss of skin pigmentation due to destruction of melanocytes. 2026 global event hosted at PGIMER, Chandigarh (25–28 June 2026) — return after 12 years. WVD first observed on 25 June 2011 in memory of Michael Jackson (who had vitiligo; died 25 June 2009). Formalised by Ogo Maduewesi (VITSAF, Nigeria).

Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas — 51st Emergency Anniversary
Observed annually on 25 June; 2026 marks the 51st anniversary of the Emergency (25 June 1975) and 3rd official observance of Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas. Designated by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2024; first observed 25 June 2024. Emergency invoked under Article 352 by PM Indira Gandhi; proclaimed by President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed; lasted 21 months (ended 21 March 1977).

Mahesh Dixit (1993-batch IPS, Andhra Pradesh cadre) appointed as Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB) for 2 years. Succeeds Tapan Kumar Deka (1988-batch, HP cadre; served since July 2022; tenure ends 30 June 2026). Appointed by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) chaired by PM Modi. Notable: Dixit qualified as a medical doctor before joining IPS. Awards: President’s Police Medal (2016), Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2009).

Launched by MoCA and DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited) following WHO’s declaration of the Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) outbreak in DRC and Uganda as a PHEIC under IHR, 2005. Developed with DGHS, MoHFW. International passengers must submit a Self-Declaration Form (SDF) covering 21-day travel history. Portal integrates with APHOs, Bureau of Immigration (BoI), IDSP, and State Surveillance Officers.

AEW&C System ‘Netra’ — Final Operational Clearance
IAF received FOC from DRDO for indigenous AEW&C System ‘Netra’ at Bengaluru. Platform: Embraer EMB-145I (Brazilian-modified twin-engine aircraft with in-flight refuelling probes). Radar detection range: 240–300 km. Lead laboratory: CABS (Centre for Air Borne Systems). Programme initiated 2003; GoI sanctioned 2004; IOC received 2017. Presided over by Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti (Deputy Chief of Air Staff).

Pax Silica Summit — AI & Tech Supply Chains
2nd Pax Silica Summit held 25–26 June 2026, Washington D.C.; hosted by Jacob Helberg, Secretary of Economic Affairs, US DoS. 35 nations signed a Statement on AI for trusted supply chains. India led by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY. ‘Pax’ is Latin for peace, stability and prosperity (not an acronym). New joiners: Argentina, Germany, Netherlands, Chile, Costa Rica, Greece, Kazakhstan, Panama, EU. Spans AI, semiconductors, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing.

RBI Credit Derivatives Directions 2026
RBI issued ‘Master Directions – RBI (Credit Derivatives) Directions, 2026’ w.e.f. 25 June 2026 under Section 45W of the RBI Act, 1934. New products: Total Return Swaps (TRS) linked to corporate bonds and derivatives on credit indices. Both residents and non-residents eligible. Mandated creation of Credit Derivatives Determinations Committee under FIMMDA (Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India). Aims to deepen India’s corporate bond market.

Viswanathan Anand — SJFI Gold Medal (6th Recipient)
Viswanathan Anand — India’s first Chess Grandmaster and Deputy President of FIDE — awarded the SJFI Gold Medal, becoming the 6th recipient. Presented by Krishnamachari Srikkanth at Madras Cricket Club (MCC), Chennai. Previous recipients: Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Amritraj, Prakash Padukone, P.T. Usha, Milkha Singh (posthumous). SJFI Gold Medal instituted in 2019 by Sports Journalists’ Federation of India.

Launched 26 June 2026 at Vienna International Centre (VIC), Austria, on World Drug Day. Around 331 million people (6.2% of global population aged 15–64) used drugs in 2024; cannabis remains the most-used illicit drug. 2026 theme: ‘World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses’. World Drug Day: observed on 26 June since 1989 per UNGA Resolution A/RES/42/112. UNODC headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
