IRDAI Penalty on Flipkart β ISNP Violation
IRDAI fined Flipkart Internet Private Limited (FIPL) a total of Rs 1.06 crore: Rs 1 crore for breaching Insurance E-commerce Guidelines, 2017 by redirecting users to a third-party intermediary instead of directly to the insurer, and Rs 6 lakh for selling insurance after its Certificate of Registration (CoR) expired on September 25, 2024. Penalty to be remitted within 45 days; appeal route: Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).

Moody’s Analytics β India GDP Forecast Revision
Moody’s Analytics revised India’s CY25 GDP growth to 6.1% (from 6.4%) in its report ‘APAC Outlook: US Versus Them’ (April 2025). The trigger: USA imposed a 26% tariff on Indian goods (effective April 9, 2025; 90-day freeze announced for all except China). Vulnerable Indian sectors: gems, jewellery, textiles, and medical devices. Moody’s also projects RBI to cut rates to 5.75% by end-CY25.

Kumudini Lakhia β Kathak Legend (1930β2025)
Kumudini Lakhia (b. May 17, 1930, Ahmedabad) was a pioneer of Kathak, founder of Kadamb: Centre for Dance and Music, Ahmedabad (1964). Awards: Sangeet Natak Akademi (1982), Padma Shri (1987), Padma Bhushan (2010), Padma Vibhushan (January 2025). Notable choreographies: Dhabkar, Yugal, Atah Kim.

Daripalli Ramaiah β ‘Tree Man of India’
Daripalli Ramaiah, known as ‘Vanajeevi Ramaiah’ and ‘Chettu Ramaiah’, planted over 1 crore (10 million) trees across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He carried a board with the Sanskrit verse ‘Vriksho Rakshati Rakshitah’ (If you protect trees, they will protect you). Awards: Vanaseva (1995), Vanamitra (2005), Padma Shri (2017). His work features in Telangana’s Class 6 textbook.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar β 134th Birth Anniversary
Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 in Mhow (now Dr. Ambedkar Nagar), Madhya Pradesh. He was India’s first Law Minister, chaired the Constitution Drafting Committee, and was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1990. April 14 is observed as Ambedkar Jayanti or Equality Day. 2025 marks his 134th birth anniversary.

Under Insurance E-commerce Guidelines, 2017, an Insurance Self-Network Platform (ISNP) must direct customers directly to the insurer β not to a third-party intermediary. IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) enforces these norms and can penalise ISNPs for non-compliance or for operating with an expired Certificate of Registration (CoR).
