Justice B.R. Gavai β 52nd Chief Justice of India
Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai will be sworn in as 52nd CJI on May 14, 2025, succeeding CJI Sanjiv Khanna (retiring May 13, 2025). He will be the second Dalit CJI after Justice KG Balakrishnan (2007β2010). Notable verdicts: upheld Article 370 abrogation (2023) and Electoral Bonds Scheme verdict (2024). Served until November 23, 2025.

DUSTLIK-VI (6th edition) is the IndiaβUzbekistan joint military exercise held at Foreign Training Node, Aundh, Pune (April 16β28, 2025). ‘Dustlik’ means ‘friendship’ in Uzbek. Conducted annually since 2019, alternating between countries. Indian contingent: 60 personnel from the JAT Regiment and IAF Garud Special Force.

L&T Waterjet Propulsion System β 45+ Knots
L&T PES successfully tested its 651 kW Waterjet Propulsion System on April 15, 2025, on the Indian Navy’s Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) at 45+ knots (85 km/h). Developed at L&T’s AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex, Surat under DRDO’s TDF scheme, with 70%+ indigenous content. Waterjet propulsion uses water acceleration for thrust, with built-in steering/braking and reduced noise signature.

Betavolt BV100 β Nuclear Battery (Nickel-63)
China’s Betavolt BV100 nuclear battery uses Nickel-63 isotope, offering 10Γ energy density vs lithium-ion. Delivers 100 microwatts at 3V, operates for 50 years without charging, and withstands β60Β°C to +120Β°C. After its lifespan, Ni-63 decays into stable, non-radioactive copper. Applications: medical devices, aerospace, remote sensing.

Six New Sericinae Beetle Species β ZSI Discovery
ZSI and Museum Koenig Bonn discovered 6 new Sericinae beetle species: Maladera onam (Kerala, Western Ghats); M. champhaiensis (Mizoram); Neoserica churachandpurensis (Manipur); M. barasingha (named after Indian swamp deer); M. lumlaensis and Serica subansiriensis (both Arunachal Pradesh).
