Union Cabinet (18 April 2026) approved 2% DA/DR hike — from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay/Pension, effective 1 January 2026. Indexed to AICPI-IW (All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers). Based on 7th Central Pay Commission (7th CPC) recommendations. DA revised twice a year (January and July). Previous revision: 55% → 58% (July 2025). DR (Dearness Relief) applies to pensioners.

UN-ESCAP India GDP Projections — CY2026 & CY2027
UN-ESCAP (HQ: Bangkok, Thailand) projected India’s GDP at 6.4% (CY26) and 6.6% (CY27). India’s inflation forecast: 4.4% (CY26) and 4.3% (CY27). Apple CEO Transition — John Ternus Succeeds Tim Cook
John Ternus (SVP, Hardware Engineering) to become Apple CEO from 1 September 2026. Tim Cook (CEO since 2011, successor to Steve Jobs) becomes Executive Chairman. Ternus joined Apple in 2001; oversaw iPhone, Mac, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch hardware. Arthur Levinson becomes Lead Independent Director. Under Cook, Apple stock grew ~1,933%. Transition unanimously approved by Apple’s Board.

India–South Korea: USD 50 Billion Trade Target by 2030
President Lee Jae Myung (ROK) visited India 19–21 April 2026; met PM Modi at Hyderabad House. Adopted ‘Joint Strategic Vision for India-ROK Special Strategic Partnership (2026–2030)’. Bilateral trade target: USD 50 billion by 2030 (up from USD 25–27 bn). Agreement to upgrade CEPA. Inaugurated in Bhubaneswar (Khordha), Odisha on 19 April 2026. Developer: 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS), USA via Indian subsidiary HIPSPL. Investment: Rs 1,943.53 crore under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Capacity: 70,000 glass panels, 50 million assembled units, 13,000 3DHI modules/year. GM norms: 1st — Sants Open, Spain (2023); 2nd — Annemasse Masters, France (2024); 3rd — Bangkok (2026). 4th Indian to earn GM title in 2026. Won National Rapid Chess Championship (March 2026). India’s First Petroglyph Conservation Park — Leh, Ladakh
To be set up at Sindhu Ghat, Leh, Ladakh on the banks of the Indus River. Foundation stone laid by LG Vinai Kumar Saxena on World Heritage Day (18 April 2026). Conserves ancient petroglyphs (rock engravings) threatened by tourism and infrastructure development. MoU between Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Petroglyphs = prehistoric carvings/engravings on rock surfaces.
