National Panchayati Raj Day — 73rd Amendment
Observed 24 April every year. 2026 theme: ‘Sashakt Panchayat, Sarvangeen Vikas’. The 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act (1993) added Part IX and Article 243B, granting Panchayats constitutional status as self-government institutions. First NPRD: 24 April 2010 (declared by PM Manmohan Singh). PAI 2.0 report released at Vigyan Bhawan in 2026. Note: 74th Amendment (1993) covers Urban Local Bodies (Municipalities).

MoCAF&PD launched first-ever structured pulse procurement in Bihar under the Atmanirbhar Pulses Mission (APM); first crop: masoor (lentil). Storage in WDRA-approved warehouses with CWC. GEM Award 2026 — Guntur Municipal Corporation
GEM = Gender Equality Mobilisation. Presented by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization). 4th GEM Award won by Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC), Andhra Pradesh, for deploying 200+ women as electric auto drivers for door-to-door garbage collection under UNIDO’s SCIAP initiative. Event: 22 April 2026, Vienna, Austria. Award established: 2018.

RBI Cancels Paytm Payments Bank Licence
RBI cancelled PPBL’s licence under Section 22(4) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, effective 24 April 2026. Reasons: persistent non-compliance and risk to depositors. PPBL prohibited under Sections 5(b) and 6 of the BR Act. Timeline: RBI halted new customer onboarding in March 2022; further restrictions in 2024. RBI to approach High Court for winding-up. India’s First Anode Material Plant — Himadri HSCL
Himadri Speciality Chemical Limited (HSCL) commissioned India’s first anode material production facility at Mahistikry, Hooghly, West Bengal; initial capacity: 200 MTPA. Anode + cathode materials = ~65% of lithium-ion battery cost. Expansion target: 250,000 MTPA carbon black. LFP cathode project (2,000 MTPA) expected by Q3 FY27. Aligns with India’s EV push and PLI scheme for ACC batteries.

Rocklink India — Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant
India’s first integrated Li-ion battery and rare earth recycling plant at Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Uses proprietary R2 recycling technology; capacity: 10,000 TPA. Processes 95 types of battery scrap; 98%+ recovery efficiency. Recovers: lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and rare earths (Neodymium, Dysprosium, Terbium). Complies with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) norms.

Bharat Taxi — India’s First Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform
Established under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002 by 8 national cooperatives in June 2025; officially launched 5 February 2026.
