India’s Creative Economy: Can AI Skilling Close the Digital Divide or Will It Widen It?
Context from today’s quiz: The National AI Skilling Initiative — launched by MIB in partnership with Google and YouTube through IICT — aims to train 15,000 people in AI tools for India’s creative and media sectors at no cost. Simultaneously, MyWAVES opens Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform to citizen creators. These moves signal a major policy push for India’s ‘Orange Economy’ — but who truly benefits?
🤔 Your Perspective Matters
India’s creative economy policy is increasingly betting on AI tools as a democratising force — but access to quality hardware, reliable internet, and English-language AI interfaces remains uneven across states, genders, and income groups.

Does skilling 15,000 people in Generative AI genuinely open doors for India’s vast informal creative workforce, or does it primarily benefit an already-connected urban elite?
  • Should government-funded AI skilling programmes prioritise Tier-2/3 cities and rural areas over metro-centric implementation? What structural changes would make that feasible?
  • With tools like Gemini and Veo being Google products, is there a risk of India’s public creative infrastructure becoming over-dependent on a single foreign tech ecosystem?
  • How does the MyWAVES citizen creator model compare to commercial platforms like YouTube or Instagram — what unique public-interest role, if any, can a government OTT play in a crowded market?
