RCS-UDAN Scheme
UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) was launched on October 21, 2016 under MoCA, as part of NCAP 2016. The first flight connected Shimla to New Delhi, inaugurated by PM Modi on April 27, 2017. Till date, 625 routes have been operationalised across 90 airports (including 15 heliports and 2 water aerodromes).

PM-MITRA Textile Park (MP)
India’s first PM-MITRA Park approved at Bhainsola village, Dhar district, MP, spanning 21,000 acres at Rs 2,100 crore. PM-MITRA (PM Mega Integrated Textile Region & Apparel) is a CSS with Rs 4,445 crore for 7 years (till FY28) for 7 sites across 7 states. MP CM: Mohan Yadav.

Indigenous HPV Test Kits
India launched its first indigenous HPV test kits: Truenat HPV-HR Plus (Molbio Diagnostics, Goa) and Patho Detect (Mylab Discovery Solutions, Pune). Both use RT-PCR technology for point-of-care testing. India accounts for 25% of global cervical cancer deaths. Developed under DBT’s Grand Challenges India (GCI), coordinated by BIRAC (est. 2012).

World Bank India Poverty Brief (April 2025)
India’s extreme poverty fell from 16.2% (2011β12) to 2.3% (2022β23), lifting 17.1 crore people out of poverty. Rural-urban poverty gap narrowed from 7.7% to 1.7%. Urban unemployment hit a record low of 6.6% in Q1 FY25. WB President: Ajay Banga; established: 1944.

Fiji’s Highest Civilian Award
Sri Madhusudhan Sai received the ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’ from President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu (April 25, 2025) for establishing the first free children’s hospital in the South Pacific. He is the 3rd Indian to receive it, after PM Modi (2023) and President Murmu (2024). Fiji currency: Fijian Dollar (FJD).

ISRO Leads International Disaster Charter
ISRO assumed the lead role of the International Charter: Space and Major Disasters from April 2025 for 6 months. The Charter has 17 member agencies serving 120+ countries, founded in 2000 (celebrating 25th anniversary in 2025). Since 2021, ISRO responded to 153 activations, contributing ~700 EO products. World IP Day & India’s PCT Rankings
World IP Day is observed on April 26 (WIPO Convention came into force, 1970); first observed April 26, 2001. Theme 2025: ‘Music and IP: Feel the Beat of IP’. India ranked 9th globally in PCT filings with 4,552 applications in 2024 β a 22.2% YoY growth. India ranked 43rd out of 55 in the 13th International IP Index.

Released April 2025 (published by Hay House Publishers India), the book is divided into 5 sections: Nation, Judiciary, Constitution, Law, and Arbitration. Fali S. Nariman (born Jan 10, 1929) was a Senior Advocate & Rajya Sabha nominated member (1999β2005). Awards: Padma Bhushan (1991) and Padma Vibhushan (2007).
International Days
International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day
Observed on April 26 each year, commemorating the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Established by UNGA Resolution A/RES/71/125 (December 8, 2016); first observed April 26, 2017. April 26, 2025 marked the 39th anniversary. The disaster occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in present-day Ukraine (then Soviet Union).

BIRAC & DBT’s Role in HPV Kits
BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) is a non-profit PSE under DBT, Ministry of Science & Technology. Chairman: Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale; HQ: New Delhi; est. 2012. It coordinated the Grand Challenges India (GCI) initiative that produced India’s first Made-in-India HPV kits validated by AIIMS New Delhi, NICPR, NIRRCH, and WHO IARC (Lyon).
