Observed on 29 May each year; 2026 theme: ‘Invest in Peace’. Marks the 78th anniversary of UN Peacekeeping (begun 1948). First mission: UNTSO (UN Truce Supervision Organization) deployed to the Middle East. Established by UNGA Resolution 57/129 (2002); first observed 29 May 2003. Coordinated by UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO). Symbol: Blue Helmet/Beret.

SARTHAK-PDS Scheme — Cabinet Approval
CCEA approved continuation of SARTHAK-PDS (Scheme for Assistance in Ration Transport and Handling–Income with Automation in PDS) with outlay of Rs 25,530 crore for 5 years, until 31 March 2031. Covers 81.35 crore beneficiaries under NFSA 2013 across all 36 States/UTs. Merges the intra-state foodgrain movement scheme and SMART-PDS. Implemented by DFPD under MoCAF&PD.

Record Foodgrain Production — 3rd Advance Estimates 2025-26
India’s total foodgrain production estimated at a record 376.563 MT in 2025-26 — 5.3% higher than last year’s 357.732 MT; highest-ever in India’s history. Released by Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan (MoAFW). Record rice: 154.024 MT; record wheat: 120.657 MT (up 2.29%). Total oilseeds: 43.059 MT; sugarcane: 500.063 MT.

VISTA — India’s First Stratospheric Super Pressure Balloon
Launched by Red Balloon Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. as part of Mission SANA at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh in May 2026. Balloon named ‘VISTA’; ascended ~25 km above Earth with payloads from 07 national & international partners. India joins exclusive club of 5 countries with indigenous SPB capability: USA, France, Japan, China, India. SPB maintains stable altitude for weeks/months regardless of day-night temperature changes.

India-US Critical Minerals Framework & 11th Quad FM Meeting
Framework on ‘Securing of Supply in the Mining and Processing of Critical Minerals and Rare Earths’ signed at the 11th Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting, New Delhi. Signed by EAM Jaishankar and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. US allocating over USD 30 billion in investments, loans, and PPPs. Separate Quad-wide framework (Australia, India, Japan, USA) to mobilise up to USD 20 billion in public-private funding across the Indo-Pacific.

AMCA Programme — RFP Issued by MoD
MoD issued RFP for Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) — India’s first indigenous 5th-generation stealth fighter. Prototype cost: Rs 15,000 crore (5 flying prototypes + 1 structural test aircraft). Greenfield 650-acre manufacturing facility at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. Implemented by ADA under DRDO. First time HAL excluded; private players invited: TASL, L&T-BEL-Dynamatic, Bharat Forge-BEML-Data Patterns.

Taiwan Stock Exchange surpassed India in May 2026 with market cap of USD 4.95 trillion vs India’s USD 4.92 trillion. Rally driven by AI-led semiconductor boom led by TSMC (shares up ~45-50% in 2026; ~42% of Taiex index). India faced FPI outflows, benchmark declines, and reduced MSCI Emerging Markets Index weight. Mission Queen Pineapple — Tripura (Rs 236 crore)
Launched by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia (MDoNER) and CM Dr. Manik Saha. Rs 236 crore convergence initiative for pineapple cultivation and value chain development. Tripura’s Queen Pineapple is a GI-tagged product. Features ‘Hub and Spoke’ post-harvest ecosystem: central processing hub near Agartala airport + 8 collection centres (West Tripura, Khowai, Sepahijala). Includes IoT-enabled farm monitoring and digital traceability. Duration: Q2 FY26 to Q4 FY28.

2028 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships — Bhubaneswar
India awarded hosting rights by Asian Athletics Association (AAA); council meeting chaired by Dahlan Al Hamad in Hong Kong. Venue: Indoor Athletics Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar — India’s first permanent indoor track-and-field facility for certified international events. First time India hosts the Asian Indoor Championships (event started 2004). Same venue also hosts 2028 World Indoor Championships (March 3-5). India also won 2027 Asian Relays in Chandigarh. National Health Accounts (NHA) — 10th Estimates FY23
Released by MoHFW — 10th NHA report. Government Health Expenditure (GHE): grew from Rs 1.30 lakh crore (2013-14) to Rs 3.85 lakh crore (2022-23). Total Health Expenditure (THE): Rs 8.81 lakh crore in FY23 = 3.37% of GDP (base year 2022-23). NHA prepared by National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), MoHFW, using System of Health Accounts (2011) framework.
