Living Root Bridges of Meghalaya
The Jingkieng Jri (living root bridges) are bioengineered structures found in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. Created by indigenous tribes using aerial roots of Ficus elastica trees, India has nominated them for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Paathara – Underground Grain Storage
Paathara (also called Khoni) is an ancestral underground grain storage method practiced in the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district along the Mahendratanaya River. The pit is plastered with straw, clay, and cow dung for natural preservation.

Under Kerala’s FY 2026-27 Elderly Budget, the Sthree Suraksha Scheme provides Rs 1,000 monthly to women (including trans-women) aged 35-60 not covered by other social security schemes. Total allocation: Rs 3,720 crore.
