Bhavasagara — National Repository for Deep-Sea Fauna
Located at CMLRE, Kochi, Kerala under Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). Designated by MoEFCC under Section 39, Biological Diversity Act 2002. Functions: secure custody of biological samples with DNA, holding Type Specimens of new deep-sea species, capacity building aligned with UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021–2030). Supports India’s Deep Ocean Mission (DOM, 2021).

IRDAI’s Ind AS Framework for Insurers
Approved at IRDAI’s 135th Authority Meeting; effective 1 April 2026. Covers Life, General, Stand Alone Health Insurers, and Reinsurers. Mandates parallel reporting (Ind AS + existing framework) for 2 years. Joint expert group chaired by Whole Time Member (WTM) — Finance & Investment (Rajay Kumar Sinha), NOT the IRDAI Chairperson. IRDAI HQ: Hyderabad.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth — 49th VCOAS
Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) is the second-highest ranking officer in the Indian Army and senior-most PSO to COAS; senior adviser to MoD — not a field command role. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth took charge on 1 April 2026, succeeding Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh (moved as GOC-in-C, Western Command, Chandimandir). Lt Gen V.M.B. Krishnan took over Eastern Command at Fort William, Kolkata.

Emirates NBD–RBL Bank Deal
Emirates NBD (UAE’s largest bank; 56% UAE govt-owned) acquiring up to 74% stake in RBL Bank via preferential allotment at Rs 26,853 crore (~USD 3 billion) — largest FDI ever in Indian banking. Open offer at Rs 280/share for up to 26% voting capital. CCI cleared (Jan 2026); RBI approved (Apr 2026); SEBI approval pending. RBL Bank (formerly Ratnakar Bank Limited, est. 1943, HQ Mumbai).

INS Malwan — Second ASW-SWC Delivered by CSL
Second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) ‘Malwan’ delivered by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) to the Indian Navy. Complies with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) classification; displacement 1,100 tonnes; length 80 metres. Armed with torpedoes, anti-submarine rockets, advanced radar and sonar. CSL: Schedule A Miniratna CPSE under MoPSW, established 1972, India’s largest public sector shipyard.

NASA Artemis II — First Crewed Lunar Mission Since Apollo 17
Launched 1 April 2026, 6:35 PM EDT from Launch Complex 39B, Kennedy Space Center using SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft. Crew: Commander Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch (longest single spaceflight by a woman — 328 days), Jeremy Hansen (first Canadian on lunar mission), Victor Glover. Mission: crewed lunar flyby and return — NO lunar landing (planned for Artemis IV, 2028). Will travel ~406,000 km.

India’s First Coal-to-Ammonium Nitrate Project (BCGCL-MCL)
Land lease signed 1 April 2026 at Lakhanpur, Odisha; capacity: 2,000 TPD Ammonium Nitrate using BHEL’s indigenous coal gasification technology. Presided by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy (Coal & Mines). Investment: Rs 25,000 crore; MoC support: Rs 1,350 crore. EPC: LSTK-1&2 to BHEL; LSTK-3&4 to L&T. BCGCL = CIL (51%) + BHEL (49%) JV, incorporated 21 May 2024.

CMS COP15 — World’s Migratory Species Report 2026
CMS COP15 held 23–29 March 2026, Campo Grande, Brazil; theme: ‘Connecting Nature to Sustain Life’. 132 countries + EU participated. Report: nearly 49% of migratory species declining; ~24% face extinction risk. 40 species newly added to Appendices I & II (16 from Brazil). Brazil assumes CMS Presidency (3 years); CMS COP16 in Germany, 2029 (CMS 50th anniversary). CMS Secretariat: Bonn (under UNEP).

Meghalaya–Starlink LoI for Satellite Internet
Meghalaya became the 3rd Indian state (after Maharashtra and Gujarat) to sign with Starlink India (SpaceX). LoI signed by Sampath Kumar (ACS, Meghalaya) and Gwynne Shotwell (President & COO, SpaceX) in New Delhi. Focus: education, healthcare, disaster management, and economic development via LEO satellite broadband for remote/hilly regions. TRAI approved Starlink’s India operations in 2025.
