India’s First Riverine Lighthouses β Brahmaputra, Assam
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation for four lighthouses along the Brahmaputra River on March 5, 2026, at Lachit Ghat, Guwahati. Sites: Bogibeel, Pandu, Silghat, and Biswanath Ghat β all on National Waterway-2 (NW-2). Total outlay: Rs 84 crore; each lighthouse is 20 m tall, solar-powered, with a range of 14 nautical miles. Jointly implemented by DGLL and IWAI under MoPSW.

NITI Aayog β UNICEF India Nutrition Partnership
NITI Aayog and UNICEF India signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to strengthen nutrition in Aspirational Districts and Blocks across India. Key focus areas include Anganwadi infrastructure, nutrition literacy, and ICDS services. UNICEF will leverage the IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) Platform to mobilise CSR investment from businesses.

IBM Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center β Bengaluru
IBM launched its first Sangam Infrastructure Innovation Center at the India Systems Development Lab (ISDL) campus in Bengaluru. The centre focuses on enterprise-grade AI, hybrid cloud, and infrastructure engineering, connecting IBM engineers with ISVs, GSIs, GCCs, and ecosystem partners. IBM is headquartered in Armonk, New York and operates in 175+ countries.

Indian Culture Portal Version 2.0
The Ministry of Culture launched ICP v2.0 with a React-based frontend and Drupal backend. Key feature: AI chatbot Bharti, integrated with the Bhashini platform supporting 22 Indian languages. The portal (originally launched December 2019) now supports 3D walkthroughs, 360Β° virtual tours, and 46 cultural categories. It functions as a Progressive Web App (PWA).

MWC 2026 β ‘The IQ Era’, Barcelona
Mobile World Congress 2026 was held March 2β5 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, organised by GSMA. Theme: ‘The IQ Era’ β convergence of AI and connectivity. India was represented by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia (Ministry of Communications); Indian companies participated under TEPC. Tejas Networks (Bengaluru) launched its TJ1600-D3 Hyper-scalable DCI Platform at the event.

The 15th edition of Hurun Global Rich List 2026 recorded 4,020 billionaires (first time crossing 4,000). Elon Musk topped with USD 792 billion. India ranked 3rd globally with 308 billionaires. Richest Indian: Mukesh Ambani (Rs 9.8 lakh crore). Richest woman in India: Roshni Nadar Malhotra. Global richest woman: Alice Walton (USD 119 billion).

Chile Eliminates Leprosy β WHO Certification
The WHO and PAHO certified Chile as the first country in the Americas and the second globally (after Jordan) to eliminate leprosy as a public health problem. Chile is the 61st country worldwide to eliminate at least one Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD). Elimination criterion: prevalence below 1 case per 10,000 population.

BEL β Bellatrix Aerospace MoU for VLEO Satellites
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Bellatrix Aerospace signed an MoU for VLEO satellite systems. Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) = altitudes of 150β450 km, offering higher-resolution imaging, lower latency, and reduced launch costs. Signed between Rashmi Kathuria (BEL) and Rohan M. Ganapathy, CEO & CTO of Bellatrix. Covers both strategic defence and civilian space missions.

K.V. Subramanian β First Indian to Receive Chicago Alumni Award
Dr. K.V. Subramanian received the University of Chicago Alumni Award for Professional Achievement β the first Indian economist to do so since its establishment in 1941. Past recipients include Nobel laureates Paul Samuelson, Gary Becker, Claudia Goldin. He was Chief Economic Advisor (2018β2021), then India’s Executive Director at the IMF; currently a Professor at ISB and author of India@100.
