World Kiswahili Language Day — 7 July 2026
Observed on 7 July every year. 2026 theme: ‘Kiswahili for Peace, Solidarity and Global Economic Diplomacy.’ Proclaimed by UNESCO’s 41st General Conference through Resolution 41 C/61. First observed: 7 July 2022. Historical significance: On 7 July 1954, TANU (led by Julius Nyerere) adopted Kiswahili as a unifying language. In 2026, the 5th World Kiswahili Language Day and 2nd International Conference was held at UNESCO HQ, Paris (6–7 July 2026).

Ministry of Cooperation (MoC) established in 2021. 5th Foundation Day held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Announcement: Cooperative Life Insurance Company to be set up. Global Passport Index (GPI) 2026 — India’s Ranking
5th annual GPI released by Global Citizen Solutions (GCS). India ranked 125th among 197 countries (composite score: 45.1 — highest in 5 years; dropped 1 place from 124th in 2025). Sweden topped (score: 96.05), followed by Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Netherlands. GPI categories: Enhanced Mobility (50%), Investment (25%), Quality of Life Index (25%). India: 136th (Mobility), 118th (QoLI), 94th (Investment).

POWERGRID — JPY 80 Billion JBIC Green Loan
POWERGRID (Maharatna CPSE, Ministry of Power) secured JPY 80 billion green loan from JBIC (Japan Bank for International Cooperation). Project: Khavda-Nagpur HVDC transmission — evacuates RE from Khavda RE Park (Gujarat) to Nagpur (Maharashtra). JBIC share: JPY 48 billion; co-financed by SMBC, Kansai Mirai Bank, Kiraboshi Bank, and Joyo Bank. Supports India’s 500 GW RE target by 2030 and expanding transmission network to 191,000 ckm by 2032.

Dilip Asbe (MD & CEO, NPCI) appointed to SWIFT’s Supervisory Board. SWIFT transitioning from a single-tier Board to a two-tier structure (Supervisory Board + Management Board). U15 team standings: India 3rd (Bronze trophy, 150 points); Uzbekistan 1st (171 pts); Kazakhstan 2nd (167 pts). Global Biofuel Alliance — GBCF Programme 2026
India-led Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) selected 15 fellows for its Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship (GBCF) programme. Each fellow receives USD 15,000 research grant. Indian representatives: Ruchi Agrawal (TERI, Delhi) and Abhishek Sahoo (IIT Delhi). Fellows act as GBA Ambassadors for two years to accelerate sustainable bioenergy solutions. Launch venue: India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. GBA promotes biofuels as a sustainable energy alternative globally.

Jestha Varna Mahavihar — UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award 2025
Nepal’s 17th-century Jestha Varna Mahavihar (Buddhist monastery, Lalitpur; also known as Jyaba Bahi / Chakrabahil) received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award 2025. Conserved after the 2015 Gorkha earthquake. Funded by Government of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction grant: NPR 13.78 crore. Recognised for community-centred approach combining modern seismic retrofitting with Newari woodcarving preservation. Located 300 m from UNESCO-listed Patan Durbar Square. Award presented by Jaco Du Toit (UNESCO Nepal).

TPG Inc. (global alternative asset manager) signed agreements to acquire 100% stake in AIFL from NIIF (National Investment and Infrastructure Fund) for an undisclosed amount, via TPG Rise Climate (dedicated climate investing platform). Partners: GIC (Government of Singapore Investment Corporation) and ICICI Bank (up to 5% equity stake). AIFL: Established 2020; Mumbai-based sustainable infrastructure debt financier incubated by NIIF. Supports TPG Rise Climate’s Global South Initiative (partnered with ALTÉRRA).
