World Food Safety Day 2026 — Theme & Proclamation
Observed 7 June 2026. Theme: ‘From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere’. Proclaimed by UNGA's 73rd Session via Resolution A/RES/73/250 (20 December 2018), initiated at the 40th FAO Conference (2017) and endorsed by WHO. First WFSD: 7 June 2019. India marked it through FSSAI (statutory body under MoHFW) via awareness campaigns and webinars.

G-Sec Market Reforms — Nil Tax for FPIs
Ministry of Finance introduced reforms in June 2026 to attract foreign capital into India's Government Securities (G-Sec) market. New regime: NIL tax on both interest income and capital gains on G-Secs for FPIs/FIIs. Previously taxed under Section 210, Income-tax Act 2025 (STCG: 30%, LTCG: 12.5%). Also expanded specified securities under the Fully Accessible Route (FAR) to broaden the investor base.

HAWK — India’s First Judiciary-Integrated Wildlife System
HAWK (Hostile Activity Watch Kernel) launched by Kerala Forest Department in June 2026, developed with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and NTT Data Corporation. A cloud-based ERP system integrating forest records with the District Court Management System via API — making Kerala the first state with a judiciary-integrated wildlife offence management system. Targets wildlife crimes and Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT).

Held in Kakamigahara, Japan, 29 May – 6 June 2026. India beat Japan 4-1 in the final. Ashish Tani Purti — Player of the Match & top scorer with 13 goals. Ayush Rajak — Best Goalkeeper. SAI–University of Tsukuba MoU — TIAS 2.0
Sports Authority of India (SAI) signed a 3-year MoU with Japan's University of Tsukuba in June 2026, establishing Tsukuba International Academy for Sport Studies (TIAS 2.0). Priority sports: athletics, archery, table tennis, swimming, judo. Signed by Manjushree Dayanand (DDG, SAI) and Kyosuke Nagata (President, Tsukuba). Builds on India-Japan sports framework launched 2016 and earlier MoU signed in 2018.

India GDP FY26 — SBI Ecowrap Projections
SBI Research Ecowrap (June 2026) projected full-year FY26 GDP growth at 7.7%; Q4 (Jan–Mar FY26) recorded 7.8%. Services sector: 9.9% in Q4FY26; trade/hotels/transport subsector: 12.5%. FY27 Nominal GDP projected at 12.5%–13% (vs Budget Estimate of 10%). Total investment announcements: record Rs 80 lakh crore in FY26, of which Rs 56 lakh crore in private investment.

RBI Penalty on Canara Bank — KYC & Account Classification
RBI imposed Rs 41.80 lakh penalty on Canara Bank (HQ: Bengaluru) in June 2026 under Section 47A(1)(c) of Banking Regulation Act, 1949. Two lapses: (1) failure to upload KYC records to CKYCR (Central KYC Records Registry, maintained by CERSAI); (2) misclassification of accounts as inoperative (last transaction < 1 year old). Based on Statutory ISE 2025 (audit reference: 31 March 2025).

IFC & Partners Invest USD 105 Million in Hygenco Green Energies
In June 2026, IFC (World Bank Group), Siemens, and Fullerton made their first direct green hydrogen investment in India — committing ~USD 105 million to Hygenco Green Energies Pvt. Ltd. Breakdown: IFC — USD 50 million; CTF (Climate Investment Funds) — USD 20 million; Germany's Frontier Opportunities Fund — USD 5 million; Siemens — USD 25 million; Fullerton — up to USD 30 million.
