As per NCRB 2023 data, Manipur reported 14,427 violent crimes, a massive increase compared to 631 cases in 2022 — a 20-fold jump.
The state recorded the highest number of cases in Northeast India for:
- Riots – 5,421 cases
- Arson – 6,203 cases
- Crimes against Scheduled Tribes – 3,339 cases
Other major crimes included:
- 151 murders
- 818 attempted murders
- 89 kidnappings
- 27 cases of rape
The surge in crime is attributed to the ongoing Meitei–Kuki ethnic conflict, which has displaced thousands.
🇮🇳 National News
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a special coin and postage stamp to mark the 100-year completion of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
RSS, founded in 1925 by K.B. Hedgewar, has grown into India’s largest voluntary socio-cultural organisation.
The Sangh’s contributions span education, healthcare, disaster relief, youth and women empowerment initiatives.
The centenary celebrations reinforced RSS’s vision of “Sarvangeena Unnati” (holistic development).
Balod district in Chhattisgarh has been declared India’s first child marriage-free district under the nationwide “Child Marriage Free India” campaign.
