Govt Clears ₹1,500 Crore Mineral Recycling Scheme

The Union Cabinet has sanctioned a ₹1,500 crore incentive program under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM).

The scheme focuses on recycling critical minerals sourced from e-waste, lithium-ion battery (LIB) scrap, and other secondary resources. It will run from FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31.

  • 20% Capital Expenditure (Capex) subsidy
  • Operational Expenditure (Opex) incentives on incremental sales
  • Max cap: ₹50 crore for large enterprises, ₹25 crore for smaller entities
📊 Expected Outcomes
  • Develop 270 kiloton recycling capacity
  • Generate 40 kiloton of critical minerals annually
  • Draw estimated ₹8,000 crore investment
  • Create around 70,000 jobs

Both new and existing recyclers, including start-ups, are set to benefit from this initiative.

UPSC to Establish Centre of Excellence on Best Practices

UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar has announced the creation of a Centre of Excellence to serve as a repository of best practices drawn from the UPSC and State Public Service Commissions.

This was disclosed during a virtual meeting with 27 State PSC representatives.

  • Act as a knowledge hub for SOPs, innovative strategies, and key insights
  • Benefit UPSC, State PSCs, and other national-level recruitment agencies

Dr. Kumar also emphasized the success of the Pratibha Setu portal, which assists candidates who reached the interview stage but were not selected.

Chhattisgarh Power Capacity Hits 30,000 MW

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that Chhattisgarh’s electricity generation has soared from 1,400 MW in 2000 to 30,000 MW in 2025.

India–EFTA Free Trade Pact to Begin October 1, 2025

India’s Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will take effect from October 1, 2025.

Unique Feature: It is the first FTA with binding sustainability clauses.

India witnessed a 15% rise in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), totaling USD 18.62 billion between April–June FY26.

WHO Flags Suicide as 1 in 100 Global Deaths

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised concerns over suicide rates worldwide.

📊 Key Statistics (2021)
  • Over 7.27 lakh suicides reported
  • Suicide accounts for more than 1% of all global deaths

Leading cause of death among youth:

  • 2nd most common among girls aged 15–29
  • 3rd most common among boys in the same age group

Progress since 2000: Global suicide rates have declined by 35%. However, the world is only on track for a 12% reduction by 2030, far short of the one-third reduction target.

WHO calls for urgent preventive measures, especially to protect young populations.

India–Japan Seal Joint Credit Mechanism for Climate Action

India and Japan have signed a historic Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) agreement under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
