National News

India MedTech Expo 2025 Held in New Delhi

  • The India MedTech Expo 2025 is being conducted at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
  • The event is being coordinated by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, with support from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (EPCMD), and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which functions under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Advanced Lithium-ion Battery Plant Inaugurated in Sohna, Haryana

  • Union Minister of Electronics and IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated TDK Corporation’s Advanced Technologies Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturing Facility at Sohna, Haryana.
  • The Minister described it as a landmark development in India’s electronics industry, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
  • The facility will enable domestic production of Li-ion batteries used in mobiles, wearables, hearables (like earbuds, AirPods, watches), and laptops, reducing reliance on imports.

Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards & Wetland Cities Recognition 2025

  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) organized the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards & Wetland Cities Recognition Ceremony 2025.
  • Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav presented awards to top-performing cities under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
  • NCAP, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 August 2020, is aimed at reducing air pollution through targeted interventions.
  • The Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan is conducted yearly to motivate cities to adopt comprehensive air quality improvement measures via a structured evaluation framework.

Award Highlights

  • Category 1 (Cities with over 10 lakh population)
    • Indore: 1st (200/200), ₹1.5 crore. Guinness World Record for 16 lakh trees planted, deployment of 120 electric buses and 150 CNG buses.
    • Jabalpur: 2nd (199/200), ₹1 crore. Set up an 11 MW waste-to-energy plant, enhanced green spaces.
    • Agra & Surat: Joint 3rd (196/200), ₹25 lakh each.
      • Agra: Legacy waste cleared, Miyawaki plantation.
      • Surat: EV incentives, 38% city green cover.
    • Category 2 (Cities with 3–10 lakh population)
      • Amravati: 1st (200/200), ₹75 lakh. Developed 340 km of roads, 53 parks, and converted 19 acres barren land into forest.
      • Jhansi & Moradabad: Joint 2nd (198.5/200), ₹25 lakh each.
        • Jhansi: Miyawaki forest expansion, urban greenery.
        • Moradabad: Better roads and C&D waste management system.
      • Alwar: 3rd (197.6/200), ₹25 lakh. Cleared legacy waste dump.
    • Category 3 (Cities with less than 3 lakh population)
      • Dewas: 1st (193/200), ₹37.5 lakh. Transitioned industries to cleaner fuels.
      • Parwanoo: 2nd (191.5/200), ₹25 lakh. Achieved full road pavement completion.
      • Angul: 3rd (191/200), ₹12.5 lakh. Upgraded road network, engaged public outreach.

Additional Achievements

  • Repeat winners include Moradabad & Agra (3 times), while Indore, Jabalpur, Surat, Jhansi, Dewas, Parwanoo, Angul secured recognition twice. Alwar made a new entry.
  • Funding: ₹20,130 crore allocated under NCAP; ₹13,237 crore provided as performance-linked grants.
  • Scheme Convergence: Linked with Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), AMRUT, Smart City Mission, SATAT, FAME-II, Nagar Van Yojana. Overall mobilization: ₹1.55 lakh crore.
  • Results:
    • 103 cities saw PM10 level improvement.
    • 64 cities achieved a 20% reduction.
    • 25 cities achieved a 40% reduction (compared to 2017–18 levels).
  • New Initiatives:
    • Ward-level survey guidelines and a Best Practices Compendium
    • PRANA digital platform created for monitoring.
    • 75 crore trees planted under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign (Sept 17 – Oct 2, 2025).
    • Creation of 75 Nagar Vans under the Nagar Van Yojana.

    • India’s Ramsar sites increased from 25 (2014) to 91.

US HIRE Act 2025 and Its Impact on India

  • The proposed HIRE Act 2025 in the US Senate plans to impose a 25% excise tax on payments to overseas service providers, mainly impacting outsourcing.
  • It denies tax deductions on such transactions and sets strict compliance rules.
  • If enacted, it could significantly hit India’s $100 billion IT exports, affecting IT firms, BPOs, Global Capability Centers (GCCs), freelancers, and smaller service vendors.
  • The Act may lead to:
    • Price adjustments.
    • Shifting delivery models toward onshore services.
    • Greater reliance on automation.

Macron Appoints Sebastien Lecornu as French Prime Minister

  • French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Sebastien Lecornu (39), a trusted ally and former Defence Minister, as Prime Minister.
  • Lecornu replaces Francois Bayrou, who was removed after disputes over debt management with parliament.
  • This move shows Macron’s continued pro-business stance, though it risks alienating the centre-left.

Dassault Aviation Increases Stake in DRAL

  • Dassault Aviation has finalized a deal to increase its ownership in Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL) from 49% to 51%.
  • DRAL was created as a joint venture in 2017 with Reliance Aerostructure Ltd (RAL), a Reliance Infrastructure subsidiary, and has a manufacturing plant at Mihan, Nagpur.
  • The acquisition, worth ₹175.96 crore, is based on an independent valuation.

IEPFA Marks 9th Foundation Day

  • The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) celebrated its 9th Foundation Day with a National Round Table on “Claiming the Unclaimed: Unlocking Idle Financial Assets.”
  • Key participants included policymakers like Sanjeev Sanyal (PM’s Economic Advisory Council), and representatives from SEBI, RBI, PFRDA, and IRDAI.

Moody’s on India’s GST Reform

  • iDEX-DIO and EdCIL (India) Ltd entered a partnership under the ASPIRE program.

SAI & IIT Delhi Collaboration on Sports Innovation

  • Sports Authority of India (SAI) and IIT Delhi signed an MoU to boost research in sports science and innovation under the NCSSR.
  • The focus will be on indigenous sports equipment, athlete performance enhancement, and injury prevention.

  • Union Minister Bhupender Yadav honored leading cities under Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2025 for their exceptional role in improving air quality and green infrastructure.
  • Cities such as Indore, Jabalpur, Agra, and Surat emerged as frontrunners.
  • A massive fund of ₹1.55 lakh crore has been mobilized for clean air projects in 130 cities.
  • Additionally, Indore and Udaipur were recognized as Wetland Cities under Ramsar Convention, reflecting India’s progress in urban environmental sustainability.

Defense News

India Participates in Exercise ZAPAD 2025

  • A 65-member Indian Armed Forces contingent has reached Russia to take part in Exercise ZAPAD 2025 (Sept 10–16) at the Mulino Training Ground.
  • The team is led by a KUMAON Regiment battalion and includes:
    • 57 personnel from the Army,
    • 7 from the Air Force,
    • 1 from the Navy.
  • The exercise will emphasize multinational cooperation, counter-terrorism drills, and use of new technologies in company-level tactical operations.

Indian Navy Commissions 11th ACTCM Barge

  • The Indian Navy launched the 11th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 25, on Sept 8, 2025, at M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane.
  • The ceremony was attended by Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi.
  • The contract for building all 11 barges was awarded in March 2021 to this MSME shipyard.
  • With 10 barges already delivered, these indigenously developed vessels exemplify Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
