21% of Legislators Have Dynastic Roots: ADR Report
- A fresh analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch reveals that out of India’s 5,204 sitting MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, 21% come from political families.
- The Lok Sabha shows the highest dynastic influence at 31%, compared to other legislatures.
- By party share:
- Congress tops the list with 32% dynastic representatives.
- BJP follows at 18%.
- CPI(M) reflects the lowest proportion at just 8%.
- State-level data highlights Andhra Pradesh (34%), Maharashtra (32%), and Karnataka (29%) as states with the greatest dynastic representation.
- A gender divide is evident: 47% of female representatives belong to political families, compared to 18% of male leaders, showcasing dynastic entry as a significant pathway for women in politics.

AIIMS Becomes First Govt College to Train with da Vinci Robot
- AIIMS New Delhi has become the pioneer among government medical institutions to offer training on the da Vinci Surgical Robot, a state-of-the-art robotic surgery system.
- The installation was carried out at the AIIMS Skills, E-Learning, and Telemedicine (SET) Facility.
- With this addition, AIIMS now houses two robotic training systems—the new da Vinci and the previously installed Hugo robotic trainer by Medtronic—making it the only Indian medical institution with dual robotic setups.
- This initiative has been made possible through a partnership with Intuitive Surgical.
- Beneficiaries of the training will include students, residents, faculty, and nurses, with coverage across multiple specialties such as urology, gynecology, surgical oncology, general surgery, and head & neck surgery.

Great Nicobar Island Project
- PM Narendra Modi showcased the Great Nicobar Island Project as a landmark development aimed at turning the island into a major hub for maritime and aviation connectivity in the Indian Ocean Region.
- The project, estimated at ₹72,000 crore, includes:
- An international container transshipment terminal.
- A greenfield international airport.
- A 450 MVA gas and solar power plant.
- Comprehensive township development.
- Apart from driving economic activity, it will also strengthen India’s defense and strategic positioning, while ensuring ecological safeguards.
Launch of Gyan Bharatam Portal
- PM Modi launched the ‘Gyan Bharatam Portal’, a digital platform dedicated to manuscript digitisation, preservation, and accessibility.
- Key features include:
- Establishment of a National Digital Repository with AI integration.
- Promotion of research, translation, and publication of rare manuscripts.
- Training initiatives for scholars to enhance expertise in manuscript preservation.
- The portal was unveiled at the International Conference on Gyan Bharatam in New Delhi, aligning with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Asian Giant Tortoise Breeding Success at Manipur Zoo
- The Manipur Zoological Garden (MZG), in partnership with the India Turtle Conservation Programme (ITCP), has achieved the first artificial incubation success of the critically endangered Asian Giant Tortoise (Manouria emys phayrei).
- 28 hatchlings were successfully incubated.
- The project includes:
- A captive breeding programme with a goal of future release into the wild.
- A capacity-building workshop for staff training on turtle and tortoise conservation.
- Habitat assessment and population studies to secure long-term conservation outcomes.
10th Ayurveda Day to be Celebrated in Goa
- Goa will host the 10th Ayurveda Day on 23rd September 2025 at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA).
- The theme is “Ayurveda for People & Planet”, underlining Ayurveda’s relevance for both human health and environmental sustainability.
- For the first time, the day will be celebrated on a fixed calendar date to enhance global recognition.
- International outreach will be facilitated through Indian Missions, diaspora communities, and global health institutions.
Bairabi-Sairang Railway Line to Connect Aizawl
- PM Modi will inaugurate the ₹8,000 crore Bairabi-Sairang railway line, linking Aizawl (Mizoram’s capital) to the Indian Railways network for the first time.
- The 51 km project makes Aizawl the fourth northeastern capital to be connected by rail.
- The development is expected to boost trade, tourism, and reduce logistics costs.
- Modi will also flag off three new train services:
- Aizawl-Delhi Rajdhani Express.
- Sairang-Kolkata Express.
- Sairang-Guwahati Express.
APEDA’s First Regional Office in Bihar
- Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the first regional office of APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) in Bihar, during the Bihar Idea Festival in Patna.
- The office will:
- Provide direct export-related services to farmers, exporters, and entrepreneurs.
- Enhance Bihar’s position in high-value, sustainable agri-exports.
- The launch included the export of 7 metric tons of GI-tagged Mithila Makhana to global markets.
- Other GI-tagged products of Bihar, such as Shahi Litchi, Jardalu Mango, and Mithila Makhana, are also gaining global recognition with APEDA’s support.

Nepal to Have First Woman Prime Minister: Sushila Karki
- Sushila Karki, former Chief Justice and a well-known anti-corruption crusader, is set to become Nepal’s first female Prime Minister.
- She has been chosen as interim leader by the Gen-Z protest movement, which forced the exit of the previous government.
- Her interim role will oversee Nepal’s transition towards new elections in 6–12 months.
- The appointment was finalized after negotiations between the President, military leaders, and protest representatives, reflecting Nepal’s changing political landscape led by youth aspirations.
India Supports Palestine Two-State Resolution at UNGA
- India voted in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution endorsing the “New York Declaration” for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
- Voting breakdown:
- 142 nations supported.
- 10 opposed.
- 12 abstained.
- The U.S. rejected the resolution, labeling it a “publicity stunt” aiding Hamas and undermining Gaza diplomacy.
- India reaffirmed its traditional support for an independent Palestine coexisting with Israel within secure, recognized borders.
- The resolution was championed by France and Saudi Arabia, with French President Emmanuel Macron calling it an irreversible step toward peace.

Retail Inflation Rises to 2.07% in August
- India’s retail inflation climbed to 2.07% in August 2025, up from 1.61% in July, though still well below the RBI’s 4% target.
- Breakdown of data (as per MOSPI):
- Rural inflation: 1.69%.
- Urban inflation: 2.47%.
- Food inflation remained negative for the third consecutive month at -0.69%, with:
- Rural at -0.70%.
- Urban at -0.58%.
- The uptick in inflation was driven by higher prices of vegetables, eggs, oils & fats, meat & fish, and personal care goods.

Ravi Ranjan Recommended as SBI Managing Director
- The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has nominated Ravi Ranjan for the post of Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI).
- He is currently serving as Deputy Managing Director and is set to succeed Vinay M Tonse, whose tenure ends on 30th November 2025.
- The final approval will come from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), led by PM Modi.
- FSIB, under Bhanu Pratap Sharma, selected Ranjan after evaluating nine candidates based on merit, experience, and past performance.

Indian Navy Commissions INS Aravali at Gurugram
- On 12th September 2025, the Indian Navy inaugurated INS Aravali, a new naval base in Gurugram.
- The base was commissioned in the presence of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff.
- Named after the Aravali mountain range, the base will act as a technological and logistical hub for naval operations.
- It will enhance India’s communication and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) infrastructure, aligning with the MAHASAGAR vision for regional security.
- The base is guided by the motto: ‘सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं’ (Maritime Security through Collaboration).
Navy Inducts Spanish-Origin 3D Radar Assembled by Tata
- The Indian Navy has introduced the Lanza-N 3D Air Surveillance Radar (3D-ASR), a Spanish technology developed by Indra and installed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL).
- The acquisition was made under a $145 million deal signed in 2020.
- Features:
- Advanced long-range air defense and anti-missile radar.
- Custom-built to withstand humidity and heat of the Indian Ocean Region.
- While Indra supplied 3 radars, TASL will assemble 20 more locally over the next decade, marking a leap in India’s defense indigenisation efforts.
