NIFT Patna & ABFRL MoU to Empower Rural Women

  • The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, functioning under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL).
  • The collaboration is designed to:
    • Provide industry-specific training to rural women in Bihar.
    • Enable them with skills aligned to the textile industry’s needs.
    • Offer direct employment opportunities within Bihar’s textile sector, boosting local economic empowerment.

Ant Financial Offloads Stake in Eternal (Zomato & Blinkit Parent)

  • Ant Financial, controlled by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, reduced its stake in Eternal (the rebranded parent company of Zomato and Blinkit).
  • Key highlights:
    • It sold 46% stake (14.13 crore shares) worth ₹4,097 crore via open market transactions.
    • Its shareholding dropped from 95% to 0.49% post-sale.

India’s External Debt Rises to $736.3 Billion in FY25

  • India’s external debt rose by over 10%, reaching $736.3 billion at the close of FY2024–25, up from $668.8 billion in FY2023–24.
  • This marks the fastest growth in 7 years.
  • Debt analysis:
    • Debt-to-GDP ratio: Increased to 1% (from 18.5% a year ago).
    • Sustainability: Still considered modest and stable compared to other Low & Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
    • Composition:
      • Long-term debt: 7%.
      • Short-term debt: 3% (with trade credits covering 96.8% of short-term borrowing).
    • Borrowers: Non-financial corporations held $261.7 billion of external debt.
    • Sources of debt:
      • Loans: 34%.
      • Currency & deposits: 8%.
      • Trade credits: 8%.
      • Debt securities: 7%.
    • Creditors:
      • Commercial lenders: 6%.
      • NRI depositors: 4%.
    • Currency distribution:
      • US Dollar: 2%.
      • Indian Rupee: 1%.
      • Japanese Yen: 2%.
      • SDRs: 6%.
      • Euro: 2%.

RBI Buys Land in Nariman Point for ₹3,472 Crore

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) purchased a 16-acre land parcel at Nariman Point, Mumbai, from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).
  • Deal specifics:
    • Valued at ₹3,472 crore, with additional stamp duty of ₹208.3 crore (registered on 5 September 2025).
    • Acquired for self-use and commercial purposes, while RBI’s HQ remains in Fort, South Mumbai.
  • Background:
    • The land earlier housed government offices and a political party office (113,500 sq. ft.).
    • Initially, RBI had to provide rehabilitation premises, but later settled by paying ₹600.82 crore as a one-time settlement.

      • Spread over 1,500 acres.
      • Composed of sand, silt, and clay layers.

    • Tirumala Hills:

AIIMS Delhi First Govt. Medical College to Train on da Vinci Robotic Surgery

  • Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) successfully built and installed the first Lanza-N 3D Air Surveillance Radar on an Indian Navy warship.
  • Radar specifics:
    • A naval version of Spain’s Indra Lanza 3D radar.
    • Part of a $145 million deal signed in 2020.
    • Indra to deliver 3 full radars and provide core elements for 20 more, which TASL will assemble locally in the next decade.
  • Capabilities:
    • Specially adapted for humid & hot Indian Ocean conditions.
    • Detects aircraft within 9–474 km range and up to 100,000 feet altitude.
    • Completes a rotation every 10 seconds for continuous tracking.
