India to Establish West Africa’s First IIT Campus in Nigeria Under NEP 2020 Vision
- India continues to strengthen its global educational presence as Nigeria prepares to host West Africa’s very first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus.
- This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes the international expansion of Indian higher education institutions.
- Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the development in collaboration with the Indian High Commission in Abuja.
- The proposed IIT will operate from the Federal Government Academy (FGA), Suleja, which will be upgraded into a premier centre with support from India.
- The model mirrors the IIT Madras–Zanzibar campus, where India will offer academic expertise, faculty support, and training, while Nigeria provides infrastructure and logistics.
- IIT Nigeria is part of India’s broader internationalisation strategy that includes campuses in Zanzibar (2023) and Abu Dhabi (2024), and planned expansions to Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the UK.
3rd International Ayurveda Conference Concludes in Sao Paulo, Brazil
- The 3rd International Ayurveda Conference was inaugurated by Dinesh Bhatia, India’s Ambassador to Brazil, in Sao Paulo.
- The conference was jointly organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) and Conayur Sao Paulo (Conselho Nacional de Ayurveda).
- Conducted between 14–15 November 2025, the event commemorated 40 years of Ayurveda practice in Brazil.
- Brazil stands as the first South American nation to officially recognise Ayurveda.
- The purpose of the conference was to enhance India–Brazil cooperation in traditional medicine and holistic wellness systems.
- The 2025 theme, “Diversity and Inclusion in Ayurveda: Caring for Everybody and Every Being,” highlighted inclusive healthcare approaches.
- The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) served as the patron for the event.

Cervical Cancer Causes Over 3.5 Lakh Global Deaths Annually: WHO
- On the first-ever World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, WHO reported that cervical cancer causes more than 3.5 lakh global deaths annually.
- Nearly 90% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income nations, even though the disease is largely preventable through HPV vaccination and early screening.
- India records over 80,000 new cases every year. The HPV vaccine is not yet part of the nationwide Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP), although states like Sikkim and Bihar have started limited deployment.
- Low-cost innovations such as AIIMS’ ₹100 rapid screening kit are improving early detection and supporting efforts to achieve the global elimination goals of 90–70–90.

Gold Imports Surge to Record USD 14.72 Billion in October 2025
- India witnessed a threefold spike in gold imports, reaching a historic USD 14.72 billion in October 2025 due to festive and wedding season demand.
- This surge pushed the national trade deficit to its highest-ever level of USD 41.68 billion.
- Key suppliers included Switzerland (40%), the UAE (16%), and South Africa (10%).
- Gold prices rose to ₹1.29 lakh per 10 grams in Delhi.
- Despite robust domestic consumption, gems and jewellery exports declined by 29.5%.

- The theme for 2025 is “Short of Breath, Think COPD.”
- First observed in 2002, the day now involves activities in over 50 countries to spread awareness and educate communities.
- The event is organised annually by GOLD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease), which also selects the theme and drives global advocacy for early diagnosis and action.
International Men’s Day 2025 – Observed on 19 November
- International Men’s Day 2025 is celebrated on 19 November with the theme “Celebrating Men and Boys.”
- The day recognises the significant roles, contributions, and achievements of men and boys across family, society, community, and the nation.
- The idea was first proposed in 1968 by American journalist John P. Harris, highlighting the need to focus on men’s well-being.
- In the early 1990s, Thomas Oaster of the Missouri Center for Men’s Studies encouraged observances in the U.S., Australia, and Malta during February.
- After a couple of years, most celebrations declined, except in Malta.
- Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh revived the observance by selecting 19 November — his father’s birthday and the date of a unifying football event — as the official day.
- Over time, nations globally adopted this date, with Malta also shifting its observance to 19 November.
World Toilet Day 2025 – Observed on 19 November
- World Toilet Day 2025 is observed on 19 November to generate awareness and mobilise action toward resolving the global sanitation crisis and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation for All) by 2030.
- The day was founded by Singaporean philanthropist Jack Sim, who created the World Toilet Organization on 19 November 2001.
- The observance emphasises not only toilet facilities but also comprehensive sanitation systems including wastewater management, stormwater handling, and hygiene practices.
- SDG 6 stresses safe waste processing. Global sanitation efforts were further reinforced in 2010.
- In 2013, Singapore and the World Toilet Organization introduced a UN resolution titled “Sanitation for All”, which led to World Toilet Day becoming an official UN observance, supported by 122 countries.

India Notifies New Data Privacy Rules: DPDP 2025
- The Government of India released the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules 2025 on 14 November 2025, marking the complete rollout of the DPDP Act 2023.
- The rules establish a citizen-focused framework for safeguarding personal data and ensuring responsible digital usage.
- The regulations include an 18-month phased compliance timeline, mandatory consent notifications, data breach reporting norms, citizen digital rights, and grievance redress mechanisms.
- A digital-only Data Protection Board has also been formalised.
- Penalties for major violations can reach up to ₹250 crore.
Sixteenth Finance Commission Submits Report for 2026–31 to the President
- The Sixteenth Finance Commission (XVIFC), led by Dr. Arvind Panagariya, has submitted its report for the period 2026–31 to the President of India.
- The recommendations include distribution of taxes, grants-in-aid, local body funding, and disaster management financing.
- It outlines both vertical and horizontal devolution of resources and proposes performance-based grants targeting education, health, sanitation, and green initiatives.
- The report was prepared following extensive consultations with the Centre, state governments, experts, institutions, and local bodies.
- It comprises two volumes and will be presented in Parliament under Article 281.
