EC Removes 474 Political Parties for Norm Violations

  • The Election Commission (EC) has de-listed 474 registered but unrecognized political parties for violating norms, especially for not contesting any election since 2019.
  • With this, the total number of parties removed in the last two months has reached 808.
  • Furthermore, 359 additional parties across 23 States and Union Territories are under investigation for failing to file Annual Audited Accounts for the past three years.
  • These parties will undergo show-cause proceedings and hearings, and final decisions will be based on inputs from the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs).

IRDAI Introduces “Bima Sugam” Digital Insurance Marketplace

  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is rolling out Bima Sugam, an all-in-one online insurance platform that will be launched in phases starting December 2025.
  • This digital marketplace will allow users to compare, purchase, renew policies, and possibly manage claims in one place.
  • The initiative aims to boost transparency, efficiency, and collaboration among customers, insurers, and intermediaries.
  • Supported by the Life Insurance Council and General Insurance Council, the platform is being described as an Amazon-like ecosystem for insurance that will transform accessibility and set a benchmark in India’s digital public infrastructure.

Tamil Nadu Becomes First State to Issue ID Cards for SHG Women

  • Tamil Nadu has achieved a milestone by becoming the first state to provide identity cards to members of women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
  • Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the scheme, announcing loans worth ₹3,500 crore for SHGs.
  • The state has over 5 lakh SHGs, and ID cards will grant benefits such as free bus travel up to 100 km and discounts at government-run outlets.

Oil India & RVUNL Partner for 1.2 GW Renewable Energy in Rajasthan

  • OIL has also signed an agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to jointly develop 2 GW of green energy projects in Rajasthan.
  • The project includes 1,000 MW of solar and 200 MW of wind energy, within RVUNL’s Renewable Energy Park.
  • The collaboration will focus on solar, wind, and green hydrogen, supplying clean power to DISCOMs and commercial users.
