Supreme Court Rules No Fixed Deadlines for Governors on Bills
- The Supreme Court declared that no strict timelines can be imposed on the President or state Governors for granting assent to bills under Articles 200 and 201 of the Constitution.
- A five-judge Constitution Bench stated that although decisions must be taken within a “reasonable period,” enforcing fixed deadlines would amount to modifying the Constitution through judicial intervention.
- The verdict preserves federal principles, upholds executive discretion, and ensures that judicial review remains the corrective mechanism for unreasonable delays, balancing legislative needs with constitutional checks.
56th IFFI Kicks Off in Goa
- The 56th International Film Festival of India opened in Goa on 20 November 2025, marking the beginning of an eight-day celebration of global cinema and cultural engagement.
- IFFI 2025 includes world premieres, Indian Panorama screenings, masterclasses, and the WAVES Film Bazaar, enabling collaboration among filmmakers worldwide.

GoI Removes Sign-on, Sign-off & SLP Requirements for Indian Coastal Vessels
- The Ministry of Home Affairs scrapped the requirement of sign-on, sign-off, and Shore Leave Pass (SLP) for crew on Indian-flagged coastal vessels.
- This reform covers coastal ships, dredgers, barges, and research vessels, shifting crew-record responsibilities to port authorities while allowing the Bureau of Immigration to continue surprise inspections.
- Praised by Sarbananda Sonowal, the step reduces bureaucratic processes, enhances maritime ease of doing business, and aligns with the Sagarmala goal of strengthening coastal shipping.
Dr. L. Murugan Opens WAVES Film Bazaar 2025
- Dr. L. Murugan inaugurated the 2025 WAVES Film Bazaar at IFFI Goa on 20 November.
- Running from 20–24 November, the 19th edition hosts filmmakers, OTT platforms, producers, and festival curators through initiatives like the Co-Production Market, Screenwriters’ Lab, and Viewing Room.

Centre Brings All Four Labour Codes Into Effect
- India officially activated the Four Labour Codes—Code on Wages, Industrial Relations Code, Social Security Code, and the OSH & Working Conditions Code—starting 21 November 2025.
- These Codes replace 29 older labour laws and aim to improve wages, ensure timely payments, expand social security, mandate appointment letters, and introduce annual health checkups.
- The reforms simplify compliance via single registration, licensing, and returns, and bring protections to gig workers, platform workers, contract staff, MSME labour, women, youth, and migrants.

India Expands Visa-on-Arrival for UAE Nationals

US Clears $93 Million Strategic Missile Sale to India
- The United States approved a $93 million (₹775 crore) defence package for India, comprising FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles and M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery.
