  • Centre Establishes Rajiv Gauba-Led Committees for Reforms & Viksit Bharat Vision
    • The central government has set up two high-level panels chaired by Rajiv Gauba, consisting of senior secretaries, economists, and industry experts.
    • One committee is dedicated to achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat, while the other focuses on implementing regulatory reforms in the non-financial sector.
    • These bodies will function in coordination with ministerial groups headed by Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh.
    • They will also align their work with a state-level deregulation panel chaired by Cabinet Secretary TVS Swaminathan.
    • The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech, which emphasized the need for transformative reforms.
  • Kerala Declared India’s First Fully Digitally Literate State
    • Kerala has become the first Indian state to achieve 100% digital literacy, completing Phase I of the Digi Kerala project.
    • More than 21.87 lakh people, including senior citizens, were trained in basic digital skills.
    • The program adopted a grassroots and inclusive approach, bridging the digital divide and enabling broader participation in e-governance and digital democracy.
    • This achievement enhances citizens’ socio-economic resilience and establishes a model for Digital India, focusing on people-centered empowerment rather than infrastructure alone.

  • Trump Nominates Sergio Gor as US Ambassador to India & Special Envoy
    • US President Donald Trump has appointed Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
    • The appointment comes amid strained US-India ties over trade tariffs and oil imports from Russia.
    • Gor, aged 38, is a political strategist, serving as the Director of Presidential Personnel and known as a trusted Trump loyalist.
    • This dual-role appointment is unprecedented and has drawn close attention in New Delhi.
    • The ambassadorial post had been vacant since January 2025, making this a significant diplomatic development.

  • India Elected Chairman of AIBD Executive Board
    • At the 23rd General Conference of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) in Phuket, Thailand, India was elected Chairman of the Executive Board.
    • This marks a major milestone, as India last held the position in 2016.
    • Established in 1977 under UNESCO, AIBD includes 92+ member organizations across 45 countries.
    • As a founding member, India will now play a stronger role in shaping regional broadcasting strategies under the theme “Media for People, Peace & Prosperity.”
  • PM Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2025 at Yashobhoomi
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2025 on 2nd September in New Delhi, marking the 4th edition of the event.
    • Theme: “Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse.”
    • The event will feature:
      • 350+ exhibitors
      • 50+ global CXOs
      • 33 participating countries
    • Organized by SEMI and India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under MeitY, the exhibition will highlight India’s progress in:

  • India’s Interest Payment Burden Nearly Tripled in 10 Years
    • India’s interest payments on government debt are projected to rise to ₹12.76 trillion in FY26, nearly three times higher than a decade earlier.
    • The increase is mainly due to high borrowing costs during the pandemic years.
    • While bond yields have eased since FY24, repayments of earlier loans continue to push costs upward.
    • Total government debt rose from ₹71 trillion (51.5% of GDP) in FY16 to an estimated ₹200 trillion (56.1% of GDP) in FY26.
    • The government is adopting buybacks and bond-switch strategies to smooth repayment schedules and minimize rollover risks.

  • Srinivasan K Swamy Re-Elected President of AAAI (2025-26)
    • Srinivasan K Swamy, Executive Group Chairman of R K Swamy Ltd, has been re-elected as President of the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) for 2025-26.
    • This is his fourth term, having earlier served from 2004 to 2007.
    • His re-election coincides with the 80th anniversary of AAAI, underlining strong industry trust in his leadership.
    • Jaideep Gandhi was elected Vice-President, while prominent leaders like Anupriya Acharya and Sam Balsara joined the board.

  • RBI Appoints Indranil Bhattacharyya to Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Indranil Bhattacharyya, Executive Director of the Monetary Policy Department, as an ex officio member of the MPC.
    • He replaces Rajiv Ranjan ahead of the October 2025 monetary policy meeting.
    • With over 28 years of experience in central banking, Bhattacharyya is considered an expert in monetary policy and inflation targeting.
    • His role in the MPC will be crucial for interest rate decisions and ensuring economic stability.

Defense News

  • India & France’s Safran to Jointly Manufacture Jet Engines for AMCA
    • India has partnered with France’s Safran to co-develop and manufacture advanced jet engines for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), India’s fifth-generation indigenous fighter jet.
    • The agreement was announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
    • The new engine will deliver a thrust of 110 Kilo Newton, setting new benchmarks in global aviation technology.
    • The project, backed by DRDO and approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), forms part of a ₹15,000-crore program.
    • The collaboration is expected to take about a decade and represents a major push toward self-reliance in aerospace and defense manufacturing.
