OpenAI to Establish First India Office in 2025
- OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, has revealed plans to set up its first office in India by the end of 2025.
- The new office will be located in New Delhi.

DoP & AMFI Sign MoU to Expand Mutual Fund Access in Rural Areas
- On August 22, 2025, during AMFI’s 30th Foundation Day in Mumbai, the Department of Posts (DoP) under the Ministry of Communications, and the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
- Under this partnership:
- India Post will act as a distributor, facilitating mutual fund investments through its wide postal network.
- The initiative is specifically designed to benefit rural and semi-urban populations, thereby advancing financial inclusion.
- Key signatories included:
- Manisha Bansal Badal, GM (Business Development), DoP.
- Shri V N Chalasani, CEO, AMFI.
- The signing took place in the presence of Shri Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman of SEBI.
- The agreement leverages the trust and reach of post offices to broaden access to mutual fund products across India.
India’s Forex Reserves Rise by $1.5 Billion
- According to RBI data for the week ending August 15, 2025, India’s foreign exchange reserves surged by $1.49 billion, reaching a new total of $695.11 billion.
- Breakdown of changes:
- Foreign Currency Assets (FCA): Increased by $1.92 billion, now valued at $585.90 billion.
- Gold Reserves: Declined by $493 million, currently at $85.67 billion.
- Special Drawing Rights (SDRs): Rose by $41 million to $18.78 billion.
- IMF Reserve Position: Slightly increased by $15 million, totaling $4.75 billion.

CCPA Fines VLCC for Misleading CoolSculpting Ads
- The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) imposed a ₹3 lakh penalty on VLCC Limited for running misleading advertisements related to CoolSculpting (fat-freezing treatments).
- Notably, Kaya Limited had earlier been fined the same amount for similar false claims.
- Misleading advertisements by VLCC included:
- “Lose up to 600g and 7 cm in 1 session”
- “Drop 1 size in 1 session permanently”
- “Drop one size in one hour”
- “With Lipolaser Lose 6 cm and 400g in one session”
- CCPA’s findings:
- The claims projected CoolSculpting as a permanent weight-loss solution.
- In reality, CoolSculpting is only approved for localized fat reduction, and strictly for individuals with BMI ≤ 30.
PM Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2025
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth edition of SEMICON India 2025 on 2nd September 2025 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), New Delhi.

- The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), operated by NASA, has discovered a new natural satellite of Uranus, temporarily designated S/2025 U1.
- Discovery details:
- Date: February 2, 2025.
- Team: Led by the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).
- Size: Approximately 10 km in diameter.
- Orbit: Circles Uranus at a distance of 56,000 km.
- The International Astronomical Union (IAU) will later assign an official name.
