Khelo India Water Sports Festival Concludes at Dal Lake

  • The three-day-long Khelo India Water Sports Festival came to an end at Dal Lake, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Madhya Pradesh emerged as the overall champion, securing a total of 18 medals – comprising 10 Gold, 3 Silver, and 5 Bronze – and clinched the team championship title.
  • Madhya Pradesh demonstrated clear dominance in kayaking and canoeing, capturing all four gold medals on the second-last day, and went on to add six more gold medals on the final day of the event.
  • States such as Odisha and Kerala also performed well, with athletes trained at SAI training centres in Jagatpur and Alappuzha making notable contributions.

X-37B: America’s Secret Space Plane

  • The X-37B, officially known as the Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV), is regarded as one of the most secretive projects of the S. Air Force and Space Force.
  • Often nicknamed the “mini space shuttle”, it is recognized for its ability to endure long missions, reusability, and conducting classified experiments in space.
  • The X-37B forms a critical part of America’s space dominance strategy, particularly in response to the rapidly advancing space programs of China and Russia.

  • The Central Government has appointed Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988 batch Manipur cadre IPS officer, as the Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The 60-year-old former CRPF Director General will directly report to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, thereby strengthening India’s national security framework.

Sudarshan Venu Takes Charge as Chairman & MD of TVS Motor

  • Sudarshan Venu officially assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director of TVS Motor on August 25, 2025.
  • He succeeded Ralf Speth, the former chairman, who stepped down on August 22, 2025.
  • At 36 years old, Venu is now among the youngest top executives in India’s automobile sector.
  • He is credited with leading the company’s strategic transformation, particularly its shift toward electric vehicles (EVs).

YES Bank Extends Prashant Kumar’s Tenure as MD & CEO

  • YES Bank has extended the tenure of Prashant Kumar as its Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for six months, from October 6, 2025, to April 5, 2026.
  • The extension was approved during the bank’s 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  • Kumar initially took charge in March 2020 during the bank’s reconstruction and was reappointed in October 2022 for a three-year term.

Vishwas Patel Reappointed as Chairperson of PCI

  • The Payments Council of India (PCI), representing the non-banking payments sector, has unanimously reappointed Vishwas Patel, Joint MD of Infibeam Avenues Limited, as its Chairperson.
  • Along with Patel, two new co-chairpersons were also appointed for the 2025–27 term.

Foreign Investment by Indian Firms Rises by 67% in FY 2025

  • India recorded a massive 67.74% increase in foreign investment by Indian companies during FY 2024–25, which surged to US$ 41.6 billion compared to US$ 24.8 billion in the previous year.
  • According to the EY report “India Abroad: Navigating the Global Landscape for Overseas Investment – 2025”, this growth is driven by:
    • Adoption of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
    • Implementation of GIFT City reforms.
    • Ongoing global tax realignment.
  • These factors have significantly influenced Indian companies’ global expansion strategies.

India Temporarily Halts Postal Services to the United States

  • The Indian postal department has announced a temporary suspension of international postal services to the United States starting August 25, 2025.
  • This move follows the U.S. government’s Executive Order 14324, which abolishes the duty-free “de minimis exemption” for imports valued up to USD 800, effective August 29, 2025.
  • Consequently, all imported goods will now be subjected to customs duty, irrespective of their value.

Donald Trump Nominates Sergio Gor as Next U.S. Ambassador to India

  • S. President Donald Trump has nominated his close aide Sergio Gor as the next U.S. Ambassador to India.
  • Gor will also serve as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, marking the first instance of such a dual role in diplomatic history.
  • He will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served from May 11, 2023, to January 20, 2025.
  • Since Garcetti’s departure, Jorgan K. Andrews has been functioning as the interim Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in India.

India–Netherlands Strategic Partnership on Water
