NATIONAL NEWS
WADA Intelligence & Investigations Workshop 2025 Held in New Delhi
- The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conducted its second Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) Workshop in New Delhi in 2025.
- Hosted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) India with backing from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
- The workshop was a collaborative effort supported by WADA, INTERPOL, and Sport Integrity Australia.
- Representatives from 11 Asian countries’ anti-doping and law enforcement agencies participated.
- The aim was to promote intelligence-driven cooperation and safeguard the integrity of global sports.
Ministry of Ayush Promotes Traditional Medicine Systems Through NAM
- The Ministry of Ayush continues its support to State and Union Territory governments via the National Ayush Mission (NAM).
- NAM is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme focused on the advancement and promotion of Indian traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
- Funding (grant-in-aid) is disbursed to States/UTs based on their proposed State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs), aligned with NAM guidelines.
President Droupadi Murmu Celebrates Three Years in Office
- President Smt. Droupadi Murmu completed her third year as the President of India.
- To mark the milestone, multiple developmental projects and key initiatives were launched, particularly focusing on improvements in Rashtrapati Bhavan and the President’s Estates.
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
France to Officially Recognize Palestine at UNGA 2025
- French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will formally acknowledge the State of Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in September 2025.
- With this move, France becomes the most influential European country to support Palestinian statehood, joining 142 nations that already recognize or plan to recognize it (according to AFP).
- The announcement is seen as a reaction to Israel’s 2023 military actions in Gaza following the October 7 Hamas attacks.
- The recognition has met strong opposition from Israel and the United States.
- Israeli Deputy PM Yariv Levin condemned Macron’s move, labeling it as “shameless” and a “direct aid to terrorism.”
BUSINESS NEWS
India–UK CETA to Boost Seafood Exports by 70%
- On July 24, 2025, India and the United Kingdom signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
- The deal was signed by Indian PM Narendra Modi and UK PM Sir Keir Starmer.
- CETA grants zero-duty access to 99% of tariff lines, significantly benefiting exports in seafood, textiles, leather, and gems & jewellery.
- Indian seafood exporters will now enjoy tariff-free entry into the UK market, enhancing their competitiveness and expected to boost exports by 70%.
India Achieves 20% Ethanol Blending Goal Ahead of Schedule
- India has reached its 20% ethanol blending target in petrol by June 2025, five years ahead of its 2030 goal.
- This success marks a step forward in achieving energy independence and lowering carbon emissions.
- The initiative also strengthens rural economies through sustainable biofuel production practices.

Exercise Bold Kurukshetra 2025 Begins in Jodhpur
- The 14th edition of the India–Singapore joint military exercise “Bold Kurukshetra” began on July 25, 2025, in Jodhpur.
- The exercise will run until August 4, 2025.
- Participating units include the 42 Singapore Armoured Regiment (from the 4 Singapore Armoured Brigade) and the Indian Army’s Mechanised Infantry Regiment.
- This year’s format includes a Table Top Exercise and a Computer-Based Wargame aimed at validating mechanised warfare strategies.
- The event will conclude with an Indian Army equipment display.
APPOINTMENTS NEWS
Anuradha Thakur Joins RBI Central Board as Director
- The Central Government has appointed Anuradha Thakur as a Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- Thakur is the current Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and a 1994-batch IAS officer from Himachal Pradesh.
- She replaces Ajay Seth, the outgoing Finance Secretary, who now serves as the Chairman of IRDAI.
- Her appointment took effect on July 24, 2025, as per RBI’s announcement.
IGNOU Appoints Prof Uma Kanjilal as First Woman Vice-Chancellor
- Professor Uma Kanjilal has been named the new Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), becoming the first woman to hold this position.
- She had been serving as Acting VC since July 25, 2024.
- Kanjilal brings over 36 years of experience in Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
- Previous key roles at IGNOU:
- Pro-Vice-Chancellor (March 2021–July 2024)
- Director, Centre for Online Education (2019–2021)
- Director, Inter-University Consortium for Technology Enabled Flexible Education (2016–2019)
Kamal Haasan and DMK MPs Sworn In as Rajya Sabha Members
- Kamal Haasan, founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu.
- He was elected with the support of the DMK, which allotted one seat to MNM.
- Three DMK-backed members also took oath:
- P. Wilson (incumbent MP, ex-Additional Advocate General)
- Poet Rajathi (also known as Salma)
- S.R. Sivalingam
- All four members were sworn in using the Tamil language.
