  1. Launch of ‘Gyan Bharatam Mission’ to Digitise Manuscripts
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the ‘Gyan Bharatam Mission’, 2025, with the goal of digitising and safeguarding over one crore ancient manuscripts via a National Digital Repository.
  • The mission has received ₹60 crore in funding and aims to globalize access to India’s ancient civilizational wisdom, especially for students and researchers.
  • PM Modi referred to these manuscripts as “Chapters of India’s soul”, positioning the initiative as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) vision.
  • During the announcement, he also praised UNESCO’s recognition of 12 Maratha forts as World Heritage Sites, emphasizing India’s rich cultural heritage.
  1. India’s First Hindi-Medium MBBS College
  • Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, will soon house India’s first MBBS college offering education in Hindi, starting from the 2027–28 academic year.
  • The college is set to commence with 50 MBBS seats and has received approval from the Executive Council of Madhya Pradesh Medical University.
  • It will utilize translated Hindi textbooks already prepared and conduct clinical training at an existing government hospital.
  • Plans are underway to introduce postgraduate courses (MD and MS) in Hindi, aiming to remove language barriers and enhance inclusivity in medical education.
  1. A R Rahman & Sam Altman’s AI Music Collaboration – ‘Secret Mountain’
  • Famed Indian music composer A R Rahman is collaborating with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on a novel AI project titled “Secret Mountain.”
  • Rahman introduced the project on Instagram, describing it as a “virtual global band”.
  • The initiative intends to empower Indian minds by encouraging the use of AI to solve generational challenges.
  • The project revolves around a story of Luna, a young woman who journeys into the mystical world of Secret Mountain and meets various musical characters from different cultures.
  • A preview video was shared by Rahman on YouTube last year titled “Introducing the Secret Mountain”.
  • The narrative touches on themes like instant gratification and the hazards of endless scrolling, combining AI and music to address modern issues.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  1. Syria to Hold Parliamentary Elections in September 2025
  • Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad, the head of Syria’s Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections, announced that parliamentary elections will take place from September 15 to 20, 2025.
  • These will be the first elections held since the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 following a rebel offensive.
  • Out of the 210 parliamentary seats, one-third will be appointed by interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa, and the rest will be filled through elections.
  1. PM Modi Presents Tree Sapling to King Charles III
  • During a visit to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted King Charles III a tree sapling under his environmental initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.”
  • The sapling is a Davidia involucrata ‘Sonoma’, also known as the Sonoma dove tree or handkerchief tree, known for its early blooming and white bracts.
  • It will be planted during the autumn season and serves as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental awareness and maternal tribute.
  1. US and EU Avoid Tariff Clash with New Trade Deal
  • The United States and the European Union have successfully negotiated a trade agreement to avoid a 15% tariff on most EU exports, particularly automobiles.
  • The deal has prevented a potential trade war, thereby offering relief to the global economy.
  • The agreement was concluded just ahead of the deadline set by US President Donald Trump, who had proposed the higher tariffs.
  1. China Urges Balance Between AI Advancement and Security
  • At the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Premier Li Qiang of China emphasized the need to create a global consensus on managing AI development and associated security risks.
  • He advocated for the use of open-source AI and warned against the risks of technological monopolies.
  • The conference included insights from AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton and calls for action by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stressing ethical and secure AI governance.

  1. Divya Deshmukh Wins 2025 FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup
  • Indian chess player Divya Deshmukh clinched the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025, becoming the first Indian woman to win this prestigious title.
  • She defeated senior Grandmaster Koneru Humpy in a historic all-Indian final.
  • The win also earned her the Grandmaster (GM) title, making her India’s 88th Grandmaster and only the fourth Indian woman to achieve this status.
  1. Oscar Piastri Wins Belgian Grand Prix 2025
  • Oscar Piastri won the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix held at Spa-Francorchamps, outperforming teammate Lando Norris in a challenging wet-to-dry race.
  • The victory significantly strengthened McLaren’s competitiveness in the season.
  • Piastri now leads the Drivers’ Championship by 16 points, gaining a crucial edge in the race for the title.
  1. Divyanshi Bhowmick Wins Gold in Asian Youth Table Tennis
  • Young Indian paddler Divyanshi Bhowmick secured the gold medal in U-15 Girls’ Singles at the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships in Tashkent.
  • She defeated China’s Zhu Qihi 4-2 in the final.
  • Her semifinal saw a nail-biting seven-game match against China’s Liu Ziling, which she also won.
  • With this win, she qualifies for the World Youth Championships.

ISRO to Launch Three Navigation Satellites by 2026

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch three additional satellites—NVS-03, NVS-04, and NVS-05—by 2026.
  • These launches are aimed at enhancing the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).
  • The upgraded system, NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), serves civilian and military users, providing accurate Position, Velocity, and Timing (PVT) information.
  • NavIC’s coverage includes India and surrounding regions up to 1,500 km.

DGCA Registers Over 8,700 Banned Chinese DJI Drones

  • Despite an ongoing ban on Chinese drones since 2021, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued Unique Identification Numbers (UINs) to more than 8,700 DJI drones.
  • These registrations have been done via the DGCA’s DigitalSky platform: https://digitalsky.dgca.gov.in/issued_uins.

  • Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of Uttarakhand released a book titled “Sustainable Wellness of Students: A Collective Responsibility in Higher Education.”
  • Edited by Prof. Lata Pandey and Dr. Ramanand, the book emphasizes the importance of mental health and wellness programs in higher education institutions.
  • It provides strategies to tackle student challenges and highlights the role of educational stakeholders.
  • The initiative is aligned with the New National Education Policy, positioning Uttarakhand as a leader in holistic student care.

Global Tiger Day 2025: July 29

  • Global Tiger Day 2025 is celebrated on July 29 to highlight the urgent necessity to protect the world’s declining tiger population, which now stands at around 4,000 from 100,000 a century ago.
  • The day was established during the 2010 Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit to support conservation through projects like the Tx2 Program, which sought to double the tiger population by 2022.
  • Although the theme for 2025 is yet to be announced, the observance draws attention to threats like poaching, loss of habitat, and human-wildlife conflict, and calls for unified global action.
