India & Thailand to Conduct 14th Edition of Exercise Maitree at Umroi, Meghalaya (Sept 1–14, 2025)

  • The 14th round of Exercise Maitree, a bilateral military exercise between India and Thailand, will be hosted at Umroi in Meghalaya from September 1 to 14, 2025.
  • The primary aim is to strengthen joint operational capabilities of both armies for counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban conditions.
  • Focus areas include developing tactical and technical expertise in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist missions under a United Nations mandate, addressing both rural and urban environments.
  • The 13th edition was conducted in Tak Province, Thailand, from July 1–15, 2024, where both nations deployed 76 soldiers each.
  • In that edition, India was represented by the Ladakh Scouts, while Thailand fielded the 1st Battalion of the 14th Infantry Regiment.

Minority Affairs Ministry Rolls Out UMEED Module for Vulnerable Communities

  • The Ministry of Minority Affairs introduced a new module on the UMEED Portal, designed to support widows, divorced women, and orphans by facilitating applications for maintenance aid from Waqf-alal-aulad properties under the UMEED Rules, 2025.
  • The digital system uses Aadhaar-based verification, enabling seamless application, authentication, and approval through State and UT Waqf Boards.
  • Funds will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency.
  • The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, transparency in Waqf management, and social justice for marginalized minority groups.

Goldman Sachs Chosen as Advisor for PSU Bank Stake Divestment

  • The Government of India appointed Goldman Sachs as the transaction advisor for divesting stakes in four public sector banks (PSBs):
    • Indian Overseas Bank (IOB)
    • Central Bank of India
    • UCO Bank
    • Punjab & Sind Bank
  • The Centre holds over 90% shareholding in each of these banks.
  • Goldman Sachs will identify potential bidders and design deal structures to facilitate stake sales.
  • These banks, as state-run listed entities, remain exempt from the 25% Minimum Public Shareholding (MPS) rule until August 1, 2026.

India Unveils Major OSAT Facility in Gujarat

  • India achieved a milestone in its semiconductor mission with the launch of an end-to-end OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) Pilot Line Facility by CG Power at Sanand, Gujarat.
  • The inauguration was led by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel.
  • The facility, under the India Semiconductor Mission, will provide chip assembly, packaging, testing, and post-test services.

India Launches First National Biofoundry Network (NBN) under BioE3 Policy

Dinesh K Patnaik Named India’s High Commissioner to Canada
