IAS Officer Sanjay Garg Appointed as DG, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
- Shri Sanjay Garg, a 1994-batch IAS officer (Kerala cadre), has taken over as Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) from 1 November 2025.
- He brings over 30 years of experience in policy formulation, strategic planning, and implementation across diverse sectors—agriculture, defence, industry, finance, and social welfare.
- Previously served as Additional Secretary (DARE) and Secretary (ICAR), where he spearheaded the digital transformation in agricultural research and expanded the Kisan Sarathi portal, connecting farmers with scientists.
- His career includes key roles in World Bank projects, defence industry reforms, and leather sector promotion.
- As BIS DG, he will also act as President of India’s National Committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), enhancing India’s global standardisation efforts.

Kaizad Bharucha Reappointed as Deputy Managing Director, HDFC Bank
- HDFC Bank’s Board has approved the reappointment of Kaizad Bharucha as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) for another three-year term.
- The appointment awaits approval from the RBI and shareholders, following the Nomination & Remuneration Committee’s recommendation.
- Bharucha joined HDFC Bank in October 1995, became a Board Member in 2014, and is currently the longest-serving Executive Board Member.

India Concludes Operations at Tajikistan’s Ayni Airbase
- India has formally ended its strategic presence at the Ayni Airbase in Tajikistan, marking the closure of its Central Asian footprint.
- The refurbishment project of the Soviet-era base began four years ago and ended after the bilateral agreement expired in 2022.
- The airbase’s strategic importance declined after the collapse of the Northern Alliance and the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
- Located 10 km west of Dushanbe, Ayni Airbase was part of India’s extended security efforts in the region.
- Previously, India’s first overseas base was Farkhor (1998–2008), which provided logistical and medical support to Afghan Northern Alliance fighters.
