PM Modi Lays Foundation for India’s First Joint-Venture Nuclear Power Plant
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project in Banswara, Rajasthan, marking a milestone in India’s nuclear energy sector.
- The project is being developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI) — a joint venture between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and NTPC Limited, making it India’s first nuclear project jointly operated by two Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).
- The project includes four indigenously developed 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), constructed in two phases:
- Phase 1: Mahi Banswara 1 & 2 (2×700 MW)
- Phase 2: Mahi Banswara 3 & 4 (2×700 MW)
- With an estimated investment of ₹42,000 crore, this project supports India’s self-reliance in nuclear technology and contributes to the nation’s clean energy transition.
- It will significantly enhance Rajasthan’s power generation capacity and strengthen India’s long-term strategic energy framework.
JNPA Launches India’s First Fleet of Electric Heavy Trucks with Swappable Batteries
- Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, head of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), launched India’s first electric heavy truck fleet equipped with swappable batteries at the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal, under the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).
- This initiative positions JNPA as the Indian port with the largest fleet of electric heavy vehicles, promoting eco-friendly logistics and reduced carbon emissions.
- A heavy-duty battery swapping station was inaugurated alongside the fleet for efficient charging and turnaround operations.
- JNPA has set a goal to convert 90% of its 600-vehicle fleet to electric by December 2026.
- Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between JNPA and the Isaac Centre for Public Policy (ICPP), Ashoka University, to develop a reference framework that will help port authorities determine tariffs based on cost and benchmarking across various cargo segments.
Kerala Inaugurates Museum Honoring Artist A. Ramachandran
- A museum dedicated to Ramachandran, one of India’s most acclaimed modern painters, has been inaugurated in Kollam, Kerala, by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
- The museum is part of the Sree Narayana Guru Cultural Complex, celebrating Kerala’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.
- This tribute follows Ramachandran’s passing in February 2024 at the age of 88.

India and China to Resume Direct Flights by Late October 2025
- India and China have agreed to restore direct flight services between designated cities by late October 2025, signaling progress in diplomatic and people-to-people relations.
- The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the announcement after technical-level meetings between the civil aviation authorities of both countries.
- Direct flights were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and remained halted due to border tensions since 2020.
- The renewal of air connectivity is part of a broader effort to rebuild bilateral relations across sectors such as trade, tourism, education, and diplomacy.
- Both sides have been revising the Air Services Agreement since early 2025, paving the way for implementation with the Winter Schedule of late 2025.
- While exact airlines and routes are yet to be disclosed, flights are expected to connect major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, Beijing, and Shanghai.

RBI Launches Scheme to Expedite Settlement of Inoperative Accounts and Unclaimed Deposits
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has rolled out a new initiative titled ‘Scheme for Facilitating Accelerated Payout – Inoperative Accounts and Unclaimed Deposits’ to promote the reactivation of dormant bank accounts and facilitate faster settlement of unclaimed funds.
- This move is designed to minimize the volume of unclaimed deposits and prevent new accumulations in the Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) Fund.
- The scheme will be effective for one year — from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026.
- It applies to all banks registered under the DEA Fund Scheme, encompassing inoperative accounts and unclaimed deposits currently held by the fund.
- Banks will qualify for payout incentives when they successfully reactivate dormant accounts or settle unclaimed deposits during the scheme’s tenure.
- Banks are required to submit quarterly claims within one month after the end of each quarter, using a prescribed format duly signed by a Senior Executive, and forward it through both email and postal channels.
OpenAI Hits $500 Billion Valuation After Major SoftBank Share Purchase
- OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has reached a staggering $500 billion valuation following a large-scale secondary share sale to SoftBank, setting a new benchmark in the global AI industry.
- The transaction involved the sale of $6.6 billion worth of shares held by current and former employees, highlighting strong investor faith and the company’s rapid expansion trajectory.
- The leap in valuation — from $300 billion to $500 billion — underscores worldwide confidence in OpenAI’s leadership in artificial intelligence development.
- Since the sale was secondary, it did not dilute OpenAI’s equity, instead offering liquidity to early investors and employees.

Bank of Baroda Introduces eRUPI P2P Digital Gifting via UPI
- Bank of Baroda (BoB) has launched a person-to-person (P2P) digital gifting service through its bob इ Pay UPI app, powered by NPCI’s e-RUPI platform.
- This innovation is the first of its kind in the Indian banking landscape, offering a secure and cashless gifting experience.
- Users can send purpose-specific prepaid vouchers to friends, family members, or beneficiaries directly through the BoB app.
- Voucher amounts can range between ₹1 and ₹10,000, giving flexibility for diverse gifting purposes.
- These vouchers are non-transferable and will be refunded automatically if left unredeemed within their validity period.
- There is no restriction on the number of vouchers one can send, though standard daily UPI limits still apply.
- BoB stated that the eRUPI P2P vouchers ensure safe, private, and targeted digital gifting, ensuring funds are utilized for the intended cause.
RBI Approves Greece’s Eurobank to Establish First Indian Office in Mumbai
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorized Greece’s Eurobank, which manages assets worth €100 billion, to open its first representative office in Mumbai by mid-December 2025.
- This development coincides with the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) initiative, aiming to boost trade and financial cooperation.

India Wins ISSA Award 2025 for Expanding Social Security
- India has received the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Award 2025 for its outstanding achievement in expanding social protection coverage
- The award was presented at the World Social Security Forum (WSSF) 2025 held in Kuala Lumpur, attended by 1,200+ global policymakers and experts from 163 countries.
- Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted India’s success in raising social security coverage from 19% in 2015 to 64.3% in 2025, benefiting over 940 million citizens.
- The International Labour Organization (ILO) also recognized this achievement as a model of social inclusion and welfare.

SAIL Partners with IIM Jammu for Executive Education

Indian Air Force Retires MiG-21 Fleet After Six Decades of Service
- On September 26, 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) officially retired its MiG-21 fighter jets, with the final two squadrons — 23 (Panthers) and No. 3 (Cobras) — decommissioned at Chandigarh.
- The retirement ends a six-decade legacy of Soviet-origin jets that formed the backbone of the IAF since their induction in 1963.
- The MiG-21s participated in the 1965, 1971, and Kargil wars, symbolizing India’s air defense evolution.
- Their withdrawal reduces the IAF’s strength to 29 fighter squadrons, below the sanctioned 42, highlighting modernization challenges.
- To bridge the gap, the IAF is expanding indigenous capabilities, currently operating two Tejas Mk1 squadrons and set to induct 180 Tejas Mk1A aircraft from HAL.
- HAL is also developing Tejas Mk2 and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) — a fifth-generation stealth fighter planned for the next decade.

Supreme Court Approves JSW Steel’s $2.3 Billion Takeover of Bhushan Power and Steel
- The Supreme Court of India has cleared JSW Steel’s $2.3 billion (₹19,350 crore) acquisition of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL), overturning its earlier liquidation directive.
- The verdict reinforces the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, emphasizing revival over liquidation of distressed entities.
- Acquired in 2021, BPSL continues to contribute significantly to JSW’s revenue and profitability.
- Under Section 6 of the IBC, the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) can be initiated by either the creditor or debtor in the event of a loan default.
- To reduce unnecessary insolvency filings, the default threshold for initiating CIRP was raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹1 crore during the pandemic.

World Cerebral Palsy Day – October 6
- World Cerebral Palsy Day is marked every year on October 6, raising awareness for the 17 million people affected worldwide.

- The condition was first identified by Dr. John Little in 1853, and in 1861, he presented his findings to the Obstetrical Society of London, defining it as a birth-related disorder.
- Later, Sigmund Freud suggested that Cerebral Palsy may originate before birth due to abnormal brain development.
