BharatGen–L&T Sovereign AI Platform MoU
Frontier TechWhat: BharatGen Technology Foundation (BTF), LTSCT, and L&T-Vyoma signed a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a Sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform for India. The agreement was signed in the presence of Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) Ajay Kumar Sood and approved by IndiaAI under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), which operates under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
How: The platform will be anchored by a 30 MW computing facility located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. BharatGen, operating under the IndiaAI Mission, will lead AI model development while L&T entities provide infrastructure and deployment support, enabling sovereign control over India’s AI compute stack.
Why: Sovereign AI is a high-priority theme for UPSC, SSC, and banking exams, especially under Science & Technology and Digital India sections. This MoU connects multiple important entities — IndiaAI, MeitY, DIC — making it ideal for institutional-linkage questions in Prelims and Mains.
General Upendra Dwivedi — USAWC International Hall of Fame
Defence & GeopoliticsWhat: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi was inducted into the United States Army War College (USAWC) International Hall of Fame at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, USA. He became only the 3rd Indian Army Chief to receive this honour, following General V.K. Singh and General Bikram Singh.
How: The USAWC Hall of Fame recognises distinguished international military leaders who are alumni or distinguished fellows of the institution. General Dwivedi holds both designations, reflecting his long-standing academic and strategic engagement with the US defence establishment.
Why: Defence honours and India–US strategic ties are recurring themes in competitive exams. Questions on Indian Army Chiefs, their recognitions, and India’s defence diplomacy frequently appear in UPSC Prelims, CDS, and CAPF papers — particularly in the Current Affairs section.
RBI Restrictions on NDF Market
EconomyWhat: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a two-stage restriction on the Non-Deliverable Forward (NDF) and offshore derivatives market. Effective 27 March 2026, banks’ net open positions in NDF/offshore derivatives were capped at USD 100 million. From 1 April 2026, arbitrage trades and NDF sales to corporate clients were prohibited.
How: NDFs are currency derivative contracts settled in US dollars rather than the domestic currency, typically traded offshore. The RBI’s move targets one-sided rupee positioning — speculative trades that put sustained pressure on the Indian rupee’s exchange rate without a legitimate hedging purpose.
Why: RBI’s exchange rate management tools are important for UPSC Economics, RBI Grade B, SEBI, and NABARD exams. Understanding the difference between NDFs and domestic forwards, and why the RBI intervenes, is key for questions on monetary policy and currency stability.
🧠 Mini-Quiz: Test Your Recall
3 questions from today’s one-liners. No peeking!
The BharatGen–L&T Sovereign AI Platform MoU was approved by IndiaAI under which government body?
General Upendra Dwivedi was inducted into the USAWC International Hall of Fame. Which of the following Indian Army Chiefs previously received this honour?
What is the theme of World Malaria Day 2026?
📒 Short Notes: Build Concept Depth (3 Topics)
Each note gives you a quick What–How–Why on a high-yield news item from today’s GK365 one-liners.
NASA Roman Space Telescope
Science & ResearchWhat: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is developing the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, named after Nancy Grace Roman — NASA’s first Chief Astronomer and widely regarded as the “mother of Hubble.” The telescope is designed to study dark matter and dark energy, which together constitute approximately 95% of the universe. Its estimated cost is USD 4 billion.
How: The Roman Telescope will be positioned 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, at the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 2 (L2), similar to the James Webb Space Telescope. It will conduct wide-field imaging surveys and transmit approximately 11 terabytes (TB) of data per day, enabling scientists to map the large-scale structure of the universe and track the expansion rate caused by dark energy.
Why: Space missions, telescope names, and their scientific objectives are frequently tested in UPSC Prelims and SSC CGL General Awareness sections. The Roman Telescope’s focus on dark matter/energy, its data capacity, and its namesake make it a multi-angle question source for exams. Connecting Nancy Grace Roman to the Hubble legacy adds another layer for factual recall.
World Malaria Day 2026
InternationalWhat: World Malaria Day is observed on 25 April every year. It was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) through a World Health Assembly resolution in 2007 and has been observed annually since 2008. The theme for 2026 is “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite.” The day is coordinated jointly by the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership and WHO.
How: The RBM Partnership, a global platform founded in 1998, coordinates multi-sector efforts across governments, NGOs, and the private sector to reduce malaria burden. The 2026 theme focuses on renewed financial commitment, innovation in tools (vaccines, diagnostics), and political will — especially as global malaria funding faces pressure in low-income countries.
Why: Health observances, their themes, and the organizations behind them are standard questions in UPSC, SSC, and banking exams. World Malaria Day is particularly relevant given India’s National Framework for Malaria Elimination and the Malaria Elimination target (2030) under WHO’s Global Technical Strategy. Questions may link the day to WHO resolutions, RBM, or India’s elimination goals.
Nasscom Chairman 2026–27: Srikanth Velamakanni
Digital GovernanceWhat: Srikanth Velamakanni, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fractal Analytics, was appointed Chairman of Nasscom (National Association of Software and Service Companies) for 2026–27. He succeeds Sindhu Gangadharan, Managing Director (MD) of SAP Labs India. The Vice Chairperson for the term is Kishor Patil, Co-founder and CEO & MD of KPIT Technologies.
How: Nasscom is India’s apex industry body for the IT and business process management (BPM) sector, founded in 1988 with its headquarters in New Delhi. The Chairman is elected annually from among the member companies. Fractal Analytics is a leading AI and data analytics firm, and Velamakanni’s appointment signals the industry body’s increased focus on AI-driven growth strategies for India’s tech sector.
Why: Institutional appointments in IT and industry bodies are tested in SSC, banking, and UPSC current affairs sections. Nasscom-related questions — founding year, HQ, or annual leadership changes — frequently appear. Connecting Nasscom to India’s IT export dominance and Digital India policy adds Mains-level context for essay and GS-III questions on economic development.
