Revamped OCI Portal – Key Features
Union Minister Amit Shah launched the revamped OCI Portal (ociservices.gov.in) serving 5 million+ OCI cardholders. Processes ~2,000 applications/day via 180+ Indian missions and 12 FRROs. New features: auto-fill forms, application dashboard, simplified sign-up for better diaspora service delivery.

Yala Glacier Declared ‘Dead’ – 1st in Asia
Yala Glacier (Langtang Valley, Nepal) lost 66% of its ice and retreated 784 metres since the 1970s. Declared the 3rd glacier worldwide and 1st in Asia to receive a memorial funeral, coordinated by ICIMOD, Kathmandu. Earlier funerals: Okjökull, Iceland (2019) and Ayoloco, Mexico (2021).

World’s First Commercial E-Methanol Plant – Denmark
The Kassø plant, Southern Denmark is the world’s first commercial-scale e-methanol plant (42,000 MT/year), developed by European Energy A/S (Denmark) and Mitsui & Co. (Japan) at ~€150 million. Powered by the 304 MW Kassø Solar Park (Northern Europe’s largest); up to 97% lower carbon footprint using green hydrogen + biogenic CO₂.

SEBI’s Electronic Book Platform (EBP) – New Threshold
SEBI lowered the EBP threshold for private placement debt issues from ₹50 crore to ₹20 crore. Coverage extended to REITs, InvITs, and NCRPS. Reservation limits: 30% for AAA–AA- rated, 40% for A+/A-, 50% for lower-rated instruments. Aims to deepen the corporate bond market.

Neeraj Chopra – Honorary Lt. Colonel, Territorial Army
Neeraj Chopra conferred Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army (effective April 16, 2025) by President Droupadi Murmu under Para-31, Territorial Army Regulations, 1948. Originally enrolled as Naib Subedar in 4 Rajputana Rifles (Aug 26, 2016). Career progression: Subedar (2021) → Subedar Major (2024) → Hon. Lt. Col. (2025).

Section 80-IAC Startup Tax Exemption – Extended to 2030
Union Budget 2025–26 extended Section 80-IAC startup incorporation deadline to April 1, 2030 (from March 31, 2023). Benefit: 100% tax exemption on profits for 3 consecutive years within 10 years of incorporation. DPIIT approved 187 startups; also doubled CGSS guarantee cover to ₹20 crore per borrower.

Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, No. 2) won his maiden Italian Open title defeating Jannik Sinner (Italy, No. 1) — 7–6(5), 6–1. Jasmine Paolini (Italy, No. 5) achieved a historic double — winning both women’s singles and doubles at the same Italian Open event.

Reliance Power – 500 MW Solar JV in Bhutan
Reliance Power and Bhutan’s DHI formed a 50:50 JV for a 500 MW solar project under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model at ₹2,000 crore capital outlay. Bhutan’s largest solar project and the largest private FDI in Bhutan’s solar sector. Target completion: May 2027; boosts RPower’s clean energy pipeline to 2.5 GWp.

Sunday Times Rich List 2025 – Hinduja Family Tops Again
Hinduja family (led by Gopichand Hinduja) topped the Sunday Times Rich List 2025 for the 4th consecutive year with GBP 35.3 billion (~₹25.3 lakh crore). The 37th edition lists 350 individuals/families with combined GBP 772.8 billion. UK billionaires fell from 165 to 156 — largest drop since the list began in 1989.

ANKITA – Assam’s AI News Anchor for Official Communications
Assam CM Hemanta Biswa Sarma introduced ANKITA (Assam’s New-age Knowledge-based Information Technology Anchor) — India’s first AI anchor for official government communications, delivering Cabinet updates in Assamese. Assam also earlier launched ‘Iris’, India’s first AI teacher, in 2024.
